  1. Go with the Frontier 12. I have used one all season and I also have a W.S. Commander 120 both very stable boats but the Nucanoe is best for most conditions. Tracks well, surprisingly nimble for a wide craft and so stable you can stand and jump in it. While not the fastest I had no trouble keeping up to the Commander and if I am in a big hurry I can use the Minn Kota to get where I am going. It was great to stand and pole through the flat and sight fish. Lots of room and no end to rigging ideas for any activity (there is a blind to allow you to stand and hunt.) Customer service is topnotch and responsive. My experience anyway. DuFf
  2. If anyone is interested, Brad Hodkinson of Soo North Flyshop just put a copy up for sale on Facebook. If you google Soo North Flyshop or Brad, you can get a contact. Don't know whether it is kosher to link his place here. It is the Bible of Fly tying.......anything you need to know is there DuFf
  3. Got it free with a subscription to FlyTying Journal years ago. Great reference book for anyone.
  4. Magazine arrived......thanks Will. I think it is more shiny than the last one.
  5. It's DuFf..........and it's the thought that counts Ridley. Cheers..... Eh
  6. Well, the problem is solved. Will has explained that he makes Canadians wait an extra long time for Hatches to repay us for unleashing Celine Dion, Jim Carey and Howie Mandel on an unsuspecting American Public. I humbly apologize to Americans on behalf of Canadians everywhere for this horrible misdeed. On a side note, It helps when you e-mail Will three times with no response, that you check to see if you have the right address. Thanks Will and thanks also for slipping some Swag in with the Hatches magazine, you didn't really have to do that. That Will.....what a guy. Cheers DuFf Ian.......you would eat the last Coaster Brookie?..........really? tsk tsk. If it ain't Pike..... It ain't right. eh?
  7. Be patient?............I stand in front of the Microwave and yell "Hurry Up!"
  8. Where is my Hatches Magazine? I have e-mailed Will 3 times now I ordered 1 first of Sept. (online - visa) This has happened before with the last two issues I ordered as well. Tom Bie at the Drake has a better system now.....
  9. Thanks for your time here. I have mailed flies iin Canada n a flat tin (like an old cigarette case) before but not across the border. I suppose I can send cash for thr return trip. Customs slip should say "Fishing Lures- Gift "??????? DuFf
  10. Hi Folks, I haven't dropped in for a while so forgive me if I only ask a question this time. I am in a Fly swap and have to send flies from Toronto Canada to Maine U.S. Is there any special regulations to contend with or any tips or tricks in shipping. Best way?, packaging? , labeling ?etc. I have usually sent flies by express post with a return post envelope in Canada but these will be going across the border. What about the return postage from Maine to Toronto? Should I just send cash to cover the return postage? Thanks for any help. DuFf
  11. A little late for a reply I 'm afraid, just saw the post. I just got back from Assategue and asked the same questions about shore casting ( I am a Great Lakes Trout guy so all advice is second hand) I was told orange or yellow over white and Copper, Copper, Copper, and if I was to remember one thing it was COPPER Flashaboo in clousers etc. A trip down to The Salasbury Flyshop might be worth your while. Mason Huffman, the owner knows his stuff and if he does't talk your ear off, you will leave with a mission. I found a lot of eager advice from the boys on Tidal fish board as well ( Virginia angler and fly board) Not that the boys here have not lent a hand) When I was there the winds and surf pretty much restricted me to casting hunks of bunker on a telephone pole with 6 - 1oz weights to hold bottom. A 6lb Bluefish and a small Striper were the rewards ( but wish they had been on the fly) Cheers DuFf
  12. QUOTE (nightfish @ Mar 10 2005, 08:58 PM) Great suggestions. Thanks! But what I'm looking for is more of a lesson plan...like week 1, intro to tools, materials, proportions, a couple of beginning patterns, etc. Week 2 more patterns & a new technique...things like that. The class will be for 10-20 students, so passing around a book or two wouldn't be very time efficient, although a reading list would be nice to have for them. "Fly Tying made Clear & Simple" by Skip Morris is a book that my Tying lessons were based on. The flies in the book (illustrated) are staged so that the skills you learn on each Fly can be used in the next fly and so on and so on through the book. Introduction, tools, materials are all covered plus some extra recipies are listed and pictured at the back. Skip Morris has written this as a one book course to beginning Flytying. You could copy pages as handouts. My $0.02 Good Luck Duff
  13. Disaster! I tied up a bunch of Copper John variants. (a Fly tribute to Johnny Carson called "Here's Johny") for a swap. I used a black raffia w/holigraphic strip wingcase and applied a drop of epoxy to the cases a few nights ago. ( my first time working with epoxy.) I mixed half and half according to the directions and it set up perfectly like a dome on each back. The next morning it had run into the fly and dissapeared and left a sticky mess of legs etc. Besides not hanging them upside down, why would the stuff still be sticky after over 24hrs ( mixed to instuctions) Any way to fix these or save them? Any suggestions? Thanks Duff
  14. I am saddened at the loss of my favorite " Sports writer" Another 20 yr+ fan. I wonder what kind of tribute Doonesbury will cook up for Uncle Duke.. I have learned that his request was to be cremated (done Tues.) and have his ashes shot out of a cannon on his Aspen property. "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me." Hunter S. Thompson Goodbye Dr. Gonzo Rest in Weirdness Duff I just found one of my favorite passages. This is for the fans: “We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" Then it was quiet again. My attorney had taken his shirt off and was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. "What the heck are you yelling about?" he muttered, staring up at the sun with his eyes closed and covered with wraparound Spanish sunglasses. "Never mind," I said. "It's your turn to drive." I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.” Fear and Loathing Hunter S. Thompson
