Fisherman Ralph 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2016 I'm new to the forum and in need of some help and / or advise. I'm not sure of were best to post this request so I will start here and I would appreciate any help or information you can provide. I recently acquired a small suitcase containing a display of fly's that is labeled as follows. "Ralph E. Coffman" Quality Sports Equipment Designer of superb fishing tackle 4500 E. Dartmouth-Denver 22, Cold. Inside the case are several photographs, a hundred or so fly's including some that are labeled house and lot. Also a letter from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library confirming receipt of materials donated to the library. Also included is list of the material donated signed by Ralph Coffman and Eleanor Coffman. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm looking for any information about Mr. Coffman and who this case belonged to. Ralph Russell e-mail [email protected]

Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2016 I'll go out on a limb and say the case belongs to Ralph Coffman. I'll also go out on a limb and say it's nothing valuable.

Bimini15 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2016 He was a high school teacher who tied flies for Eisenhower. Who are you? How did you end up with this box?
Kentuckysteve 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2016 Ralph Coffman was a school teacher who had developed the fly called "The House and Lot". Eisenhower was fascinated with the fly and it was one of his favorites. That was one reason it was so popular. The modern version of this fly is called "The H and L Variant." It talks about him on page 23 of this copy of The American Fly Fisher.http://www.amff.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2000-Vol26-No1web.pdf He was also Board President of Camp Tawonga before he died in 1989.https://tawonga.org/support/book-of-life/eleanor-coffman/ If the flies are original versions tied by him they may have some value.
