xvigauge 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2018 Anyone familiar with the Hot Creek Special nymph? I caught several fish with it yesterday in Th GSMNP. It is fairly easy to tie, with or without a bead head. The recipe: Thread: your choice Hook: 14 or 16 nymph hook Tail: several fibers of red/rust hen saddle hackle Rib: fine copper wire Body: peacock hurl Legs: small sections of peacock hurl tied crossways Back: small section of turkey quill tied in at the tail and pulled over the back. Leave a small section of the quill sticking out the front (like a hood of sorts). The quill should be coated with a light coat of head cement or clear nail polish to make it somewhat stiff and a little easier to tie in as the sections of the quill will then not separate. planettrout 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2018 It is a Southern pattern that was created Don R. Howell. I don't think it would be particularly effective on the "other" Hot Creek in California's Eastern Sierra: https://www.davidsonflyfishing.com/store/flies/hot-creek-special PT/TB
