Fly Tying

Recommended Posts

Warm weather here in Texas and the Trout Stocking Season has since passed. Here is one that worked well in the Stock Ponds and the Guadalupe River this past Season as well as Seasons past.

It's a variant of the larger Guadalupana Fishing Fly. The one in the picture uses a Palmered Hackle but it can be tied like a Wet Fly Hackle as well. Here are details on tying one - COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. Works on Bluegill and Sunfish, too!

PS: Here is a video from this past Season on the Guadalupe River by Huaco Springs where two of us used a COAF Guadalupana (Wet Fly Hackle instead of a Palmered Hackle).

So... It's a Beadhead wooly bugger...?

Pretty much, other than it uses peacock herl instead of chenille and the original pattern called for a Wet Fly hackle wrap instead of Palmered.

Have used them in Wet Fly hackle as well as Palmered; some days it makes a difference, other times it doesn't.

Have fished both BH Wooley Buggers and the COAF Guadalupana; same holds true... some days they want one over the other.

But, that's fishing. :-)

Had an opportunity to get a round of fishing in this evening. Went with the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and only one fishing fly - the COAF Guadalupana. Total count this round - two Bluegill, one Sunfish, nine Bass, and a Happy Fisherman! Still no Bruisers; still lots of fun. Today's Video.

Did some fly tying in preps for tomorrow - more Guadalupana but added Near Deere and PMC Emerger variant. Hope they work! Post.

Good news - Guadalpanas worked and limited out on trout! Bad news - ran out of Guadalupanas! Post.
