Topics I've Started

fly fishing the northern ca coast

20 February 2019 - 09:08 PM

We take a trip to the Mendocino coast every year, we usually do some surf fishing while we're there with traditional tackle mostly we catch surf perch last year the beach where we are changed a good bit and it has kind of created a sand bar protected area and we caught some small striper as well. I'm planning on bringing my 8 wt this year and trying some fly fishing I caught a few using standard tackle with a baitfish fly I tied up after cleaning a surf perch so I plan to use those again but I was wondering if there were any other patterns I should try as well, techniques would be helpful as well I have a floating titan taper and full sinking outbound short lines for my 8wt.

Finally got one

I've been trying to get a turkey with my bow for a while now been a frustrating few seasons, decided I'd give the head loper style broad heads a chance this year.

On a related note best ways to preserve the skin and feathers, I have the most meat free part covered in borax to dry anything else I should do with out, I put the ants to work on other parts of it.
