  1. I'd add soft hackles & hornbergs to the list. And if my experience on the Squanny is any guide sitck to easy to tie flys. Lots of stick fish to loose flys to there, or maybe its just where I fish. Trout in the Nashua, hmmm. I've heard of a few in small tributarys but never tried in the river itself. Some stretches of that river get darn hot in the summer. It would be an interesting river to float for bass in the summer.
  2. Maybe put a piece of foam pipe insulation on it and use it as a drying stand.
  3. What size flies, midges or saltwater flies?
  4. QUOTE (TroutBum @ Aug 8 2004, 08:36 PM) If I added up all of the money I have spent on fly tying materials and equipment, each fly I tie probably costs me $27.50 Your probably on the right cost scale. About 15 years ago, in my pre catch and release days, I kept a fishing log and figured that, every trout I kept cost $200/lb. Just one of the reasons I don't keep a log book. IMHO one of the best reasons to buy flies is to get those local patterns & info when you are on a trip. I buy three of each pattern; one for the trees, one to fish & one to tie from.
  5. Thats one of mine. The tail is plastic canvas yarn with some Krenik binding fibers mixed in for flash. Directions should be in the flydata base. I got the twisting technique from a Boyd Pfeiffer article a couple of years ago. The twisting can also be done with cactus chenille to make a thick body, kinda like this.
  6. QUOTE (TroutBum @ Aug 7 2004, 02:42 PM) I'll start the argument again because I love to stir-up trouble. TB you rabble rouser, I thought this argument was for February or March. With that said there are 2 definitions that matter to me; what the locality I am fishing calls a fly, and what my personal ethics call a fly. Living in MA, where the only legal definition of what you can use on flyfishing waters is that it must be cast using a fly rod the epoxy egg or a sluggo for that matter is legal.
  7. I'm using a Renzetti cam traveler that works well for size 2- 26. Bigger than that, or deer hair bugs and I get the problems Troutbum & Dbl Haul had. Even with those problems it's a lot better than the Sunshine vice that preceeded it, and that was lots better than my home made options before that.
  8. Mine came with a slotted screw. Unless you tie from midges to 2/0's a slotted or phillips machine screw will work fine. I think it was a # 6-32 x 1/2" when I did the switch to a thumb screw on a cam jaw model. And yes the thumbscrew loosens up for me. Oh if you do use Loctite get one that is removable when used on small screws. Its a lesson I learned the hard way .
  9. QUOTE (DFix @ Jul 23 2004, 02:11 PM) WAIT- sacrement!- I LIED!!! - Mon Dieu!!! - I have French Canadian 'relative'!!! There goes the bloodline
  10. QUOTE (luvinbluegills @ Jul 22 2004, 07:58 PM) Sweet! I don't expect the room to hit 122 degrees Farenheit so I should be okay. Thanks for the link Bob! 122 degrees is the max inlet air temp to the power supply, not room temp. You may be a lot closer than you think after the CPU, drives & video card give off heat inside the case.
  11. Will, I wish you a quick recovery.
  12. I've had good luck finding out of print fishing books through inter library loan.
  13. One could always bend a piece of 1/8" rod into a suitable shape and save the factory part for future use. Heck a coat hanger would work.
  14. Sounds like a great trip. I know what you mean about Beans FF department, no musty smell of formaldehyde and/or mothballs.
  15. I quess I'm the only one here who leaves some in the car trunk permanently. If its not there how could I stop for a half hour of fishing at a moments notice? While mono is terribly weakened by the heat in the summer, I haven't seen any effect on the rods. But then i'm not down south like TB and I think of this as a case of by the time a rod breaks I "need" a new one anyways. In the house (yes there are some there) they are stored in a pile in socks with the tubes nearby. You have to have a big enough pile so your spouse can't get an easy count.
