  1. As always, very very nice tie. A work of art.
  2. I too would like to congratulate them on making the cover of Fly Tyer's, Summer 2006 edition. Your straightening hair stacking tip will really help out. Also, thank you for your posts here, I have learned a lot from your tips. Regards, AKS
  3. Robow 7: I totally agree with you. I for one have never stopped tying or fishing with wet flies. I still use a Black Nose Dace or Mickey Finn for searching a tail out of a pool when nothing is rising or taking a wet or nymph. Oh, what is that photo of up alongside my name? Hummmm...? Have a good one. AKS
  4. OLB: Congratulations on your first of what I hope will be many, many sales. Thank you for sharing that photo with all of us here. AKS
  5. Mr. Bastian: That is a very easy question. Al Gore invented it, early 1980's I seem to recall. Hope you have plans for a second DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed and learned from your first one. AKS
  6. "The spare room, I'm only going to take up a small section of the corner of the room."
  7. Day 5, depends on your computer. I am on cable and it takes my puter less that 14 seconds to refresh. If I see anything I really want, I never bid until the 14 second mark. I also put in my max bid of what I am willing to pay. I have out bid people more times in the last 20 seconds or less and won. I have an electronic timer next to my monitor and I practice with my refresh so I know how long it will take that day. You will learn these tricks if you buy long enough on eBay. Good luck.
  8. Fatman: I buy ALL my hooks on eBay now. Like with any auction you have to know what your buying, and I also take into consideration the shipping cost as well. I tie a lot of scud and emergers in size 14, I lucked out last year when I purchased 1,000 Edger Sealy hooks at a ridicules low price. Now I tie to my hearts content. I prefer Tiemco hooks and one seller "Snugchat" I continually buy from on eBay. One tip for those who haven't purchased on ebay, know what the retail cost of the item your buying and don't get caught up in the bidding. I onced paid $20.00 for a pair of AK Best tweezers because I wanted them. Since then I have purchased a couple of other pairs and for a lot less. The items always come round again and again and you will get it at your price.
  9. I like to tie small elk hair caddis, so I use comparadun hair. I haven't found any elk hair thin (small) enough that I am comfortable with. The shop where I purchase my materials at stock various colors of the comparadun.
  10. glm: I have a number of them. They are so inexpensive and I hate to switch out thread all the time so I purchased enough of them where I have one for each color of thread I use. I started using them after watching AK Best tying videos, like one poster stated, it does take a bit to get use to the feel. I still use wire bobbins and because I switch back and forth so much, it doesn't feel strange either way now in my hand. As I stated they are inexpensive you are able to have them for wire, uni-stretch, floss and other tying materials that you would normally won't keep on a bobbin. You got a good buy on eBay for them. Normally it costs about $5 each.
  11. I purchased a quanty of zip lock bags that you can access from either end from Trout Geek. I bought the various sizes he had listed and I put them all to good use. The only draw back I observed is the thickness of the plastic, however for the cost I consider it reasonable.
  12. I never knew who to ask before, I guess I know the place now. I use Hard as Hull (HaH) head cement from time to time. At certain times of the year it becomes thick and hard to apply just a small amount to an area. My question is, what can I use to thin it when it is thick? I have asked at various fly shops that carry the product and I am told there is no HaH thinner. Can someone please come up with a suggestion? Thank you in advance.
