  1. majestyja, count me out on the new swap. It's not exactly cheap to send flys from Aus particularly as it is now nearing "annual gift giving day". I was mostly interested in seeing if customs would let the swapped flys back into the country so I could participate in more swaps. I must say I am disappointed in how this one has turned out, I was looking forward to seeing what flys you guys had made. Cheers
  2. Hi tastrout, Welcome from a fellow Australian (Canberra). I joined only a few weeks ago but from ready this forum I feel as if I have already gained a years worth of info.
  3. My flys left yesterday, expect at least a week for them to get there according to my local postmaster. Cheers
  4. I'm done too, I ended up doing a number 20 bead head midge larva. I have attached the picture below, this is my first tie on something this small so please be kind. If you can PM me the address where I should send them I will get them out on monday which should give plenty of time to cross the pacific.
  5. Ok with me. It shouldn't take much more to turn out another two
  6. Cheers Majestyja, All of the flys in the swap will be my first from anywhere outside Australia too.
  7. I'm in, not sure what I will tie yet though. I'm in Australia I hope that doesn't cause any problems.
  8. Thanks guys, I will try out your suggestions tonight. Hopefully my hackels will be better now.
  9. I am having a lot of trouble finishing off hackles. starting them is no problem and then winding them around is fine, but when I go to tie it off I always get a heap of hakles caught in the thread which point forward over the hook eye. So far I have just been triming these when I am done, but surely there is a better way. I understand you can use a hackle gaurd when tying the head but I can't think of a way to do it when I am tying down the end of the hackle. cheers Michael
  10. Hi all, I am a relative newbie, having started fly fishing 2 years ago mostly fresh water. But I am looking forward to a weeks break fishing in the briney. I have just taken up tying and find it a great way to spend time (and more often money). I must say I am addicted and have been lurking on this group for a few weeks now and have found a wealth of information and ideas that I have already put into use. I am looking forward to participating in the swaps, they seem like a great idea. Are there many other fishers from 'down under' on the group? Tight lines Michael
