  1. https://competitiveangler.com/products/catgut-body-material Super fast shipping!
  2. I second the above post about contacting Silver Creek about his UV light (and resins....I have all 3 types). I tried multiple lights and Silver's high end light is far and away the winner among those I have tried. I had mine for roughly a year or so and it went south after extensive use. I contacted him about purchasing another just last week and found out he has replacement parts. He will troubleshoot your light if you send it back and sell you a replacement for the defective part at a nominal price, eliminating the need for a new torch.
  3. I have had good luck with riplips. Advertises on ebay and has a web site as well. Have to buy lots of 100. Flyshack has decent beads at reasonable prices if you want lots of 25. Also, wide variety of colors. Slotted beads in the regular and odd colors at tactical fly fisher (50/pk) and competitive angler (25/pk). Al;so check out theflyfishingstore. . After my first order, they sent me a code for 10% off of the next two orders. I think the best quality for the price was tactical fly fisher, competitive angler and theflyfishingstore. All the usual places (stockard etc.) sell 25/pk.
  4. I was at the Garner, NC Cabelas yesterday and all fly tying stuff, including hooks, was 30% off. The portion of the store dedicated to fly tying was only about half as big as when the store first opened about a year ago.
  5. I had an old Thompson that I wanted to upgrade. I ordered a Dyna King Pro. Before it arrived, I scored on an old Regal Medallion a widower was selling on Criagslist for a price I could not refuse. I fell in love with it and the Dyna King currently goes unused. When I purchased the Regal it had one flaw, a small chip out of the tip of one jaw. I used it for several months and found out why. If you place the hook too close to the tip of the jaw, the spring exerts enough pressure on the hook that the jaw chips. I ordered a new jaw from Regal and now am sure to set the hook a bit farther back in the jaw. The stainless jaw may be stronger than the carbon steel jaw which I have. Another potential problem, again related to hook placement in the jaw, is that on a couple of occasions, I had a hook fly out of the jaw across the room on placement in the jaw, requiring a search of the carpet with a magnet. Still, I love this vise, but felt obliged to point out possible problems the new user may encounter with hook placement. BTW, I have the solid base.
  6. I too have been a lurker for quite some time, but will jump in with my first post. I am left handed. When I started fishing with a spinning rod 55 years ago, there were no readily available left handed reels. I purchase a Mitchell 300 right handed reel, cast with my left hand and turned the rod 45 degrees so my right hand cranked the handle of the reel horizontally rather than vertically. I got a load of grief over it, but it worked for me. Later, when left handed and reversible reels became common, I sprang for a left handed reel. Lo and behold, I could not make it work for me.....felt unnatural after all those years of my odd retrieve. So, here I am today, fishing with same old right hand retrieve Mitchell 300 when I use a spinning rod. Any port in a storm.
  7. I've been a lurker for a long time, but need to comment here in my first post!. Tried 'em all and hands down Silvercreek's product is the best. Do yourself a favor and get his UV light as well. BTW, this site is addictive and a treasure trove of information. Discovered it a few months ago.
