Wanted to get a more prominent speckled wing, so I used guinea instead of partridge. Also simplified (for me) the wing/wingcase sequence; don't have to do a lot of cyphering to get the length right. As always, change colors/size to meet your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #14

thread - MFC 8/0 sand

tail - grizzly hackle fibers

abdomen - goose biot

underwing/wingpad - CDC dark dun

thorax - hare's ear dubbing

overwing - guinea

mash barb, start thread; create a small bump above barb

even tips on some grizzly fibers, measure (shank length)); tie in/trim butts

tie in (moistened) biot, notch side down for ribbed effect; wrap forward, tie off/trim

even tips on a pair of CDC feathers, measure (hook length); tie in, leaving butts long

dub thread/dub thorax

pull CDC butts forward; tie off/trim

sweep underwing back, set angle with thread dam

trim out center from a guinea feather

measure (tips to bend); tie in, letting thread torque flare/distribute but not spin the guinea

trim guinea, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

That's a great looking fly. I like the color combo and the wing spots. Clear water presentation that's sure to get some major fish attention.

Very nice looking tie and a nice pattern. I tied up a few tonight with black biot, black cdc dubbing and a wing of dark dun mallard flank, the winging technique works great. Thanks for sharing this.
