  1. I hooked up that musky that day but the fight didnt end the way I wanted the threw the fly the 2nd or 3rd jump. But it was a good way to get the juices flowing. Its gona be a good yr. Plus I got 3 days floating with Brad Bohen in sept. Hopefully he can put me on a big fish or 2.
  2. This what my musky box looks like. Big guys on the left and Even bigger guys on the right.
  3. I hooked up on 1st musky of the ths year. High muddy water and the very windy conditions push the baitfish to the banks. And the musky fallow. It hit a ceris, yellow and terquios triple tyed on 2 c70sd 4\0 and a mustad 34007 5\0 fpr the head. I exclusively fish tandem bucktail hackle flys. But the triples are very castible and the movement in the water is even better.
  4. Use the non slip mono loop if your using mono or flouro. Its not gonna break if its seated right. Trust me it works.
  5. That tiger hit right at the bank with 3ft of line out. It was pitch black. Throwing big tandem streamers in the pitch black isnt that big if ya dont think about what your doin (or the fly on the end of your leader). They set themselves up parallel to the bank for the strike. They might strike 2 or 3 times but they will get it. I believe the sound of the line strippin outta water attracts them to the bank.
  6. Tigers in my opinion are alittle more agreesive than pure breeds. I caught 1 that was about 2ft and it was the prettiest fish I've seen. It had bright silver sides and dark green bars.
  7. Me and the circle of guys I fish with have got close to 30 muskys on the fly. I would venture to say have had 50+ hit. I've chatted with Brad several times on facebook about tackle and general tactics. Alot of guys talk a good game when it comes to musky on the fly & have no clue. But with Bohen you can take his word as gospel. Like he said 99% of the muskys are caught by 1% of the fisherman! Heres a pic of my 1st 40+ inch tiger taken on the fly.
  8. Fly fishing is full of opinoins dry vs nymphs, fiberglass vs graphite and I'm not gonna even mention the 'boo guys. I was just stateing my opinion. I dont fish big lakes. I stay on medium to large rivers. I dont need to make alotta comotion to attract fish. The fish can hear the splash down and the push from the fly. I do agree with flouro, 80 pound is what i use. Wire sucks it kinks and coils. The only fish I had come close to making it through the flouro was a 3ft pike. There was a about 5 heathly knicks in it. I did tye up some "sponge bob square heads" a Brad Bohen creation. For some top water action there about a foot long.
  9. Leaders I tryed the 1 in the link above. It didnt suit my style of fishing & the flys I throw. Go short and strong you dont need taper to turn over a 4 ft leader. And the flys are heavy enuff to straiten out what doesnt turn over. I never fish a leader over 4ft with any fly. This isnt a finesse game. And musky will not be leader shy. So a 9ft leader isnt needed.
  10. Here is some of my musky flys. Ive caught 10 this yr and lost 2x that. They cast great well on then right gear. In my oppinion putting hard wear on a fly makes it a spinner bait or a a cowgirl (inline spinner). ya might as well thow em on a baitcaster. Each to his own Here is some of my better musky this summer.
  11. I love fishing steelhead in erie and for me size 14 and 16 fleas colored sucker spawn and the same sizes in bloods dot really work. In PA egg patterns are king. But swing flys infront of un molested fish sometimes are hard to fiind but is just as much fun.
  12. All my musky fishing is from the bank well wading. Mainly in rivers and tailouts from dams. Casting gets tricky when your almost chest deep in a river and thowing a heavy sinking line. You guys ever get another musky swap together consider me in.
  13. Thanks Kirk, I've pretty much dedicated my whole summer fishing wise to the musky. I landed 10 musky 3 of which were over 40 inches. I've landed about a 1/3 of the fish i hooked up on. I lost 1 about 3 weeks ago that was damn close to 50. A minute or two into the fight she shook the hook on the second jump. Heres the best pic I got all summer. And some of the flys I'm tyeing for them.
  14. Hey guys I'm new to this site and I'm really amazed by the info here. I'm a flyrod junky and really onto musky, steelhead and wild trout. Here some of my fish from this summer. Video of the big musky in the pic below.
