Magnum Wooly Buggar:

Long shank streamer hook, pictured is a Mustad 34011 #1

Neck hackles splayed, maroon grizzley & black pictured

Marabou plumes, thin stemmed, palmered on hook. pictured a red and two blacks

Rubber or silicone legs, four on each side in the front and back. Pictured Sili legs black with red tip.

Medium or large chenine or antron chenille overwrapped with neck hackle, pictured black for both.

Weedguard appropriate for hook size.

I've caught many bass and redfish on this pattern in color variations from this to white/grey, chartreuse/black, purple/black, brown/orange, yellow/black.

That is one nice looking fly. It looks like it would slay the reds around the oyster bars.

Kirk,

That has to be one of the most awsome redfish flies I have ever seen...looks like it lands soft on happy tailers.

Panama, it pushes a lot of water but once the marabou is saturated, it kind of plops down on the water. Fortunately we don't have overly skittish redfish when it comes to fly presentation like ya'll do. I think a synthetic hair loop dubbed around the shank in place of the marabou would give a softer entry since synthetics like EP fibers and Congo hair shed water on one backcast. I'll have to try that, thanks for gettin me thinking.

Thanks,

Kirk

Trying new twist and came up with this:

Hook: TMC 5263 size 10

Tail: Ostrich Hearl, Crystal Flash

Body: Dubbing Loop with Cream Angora Goat (Cream)

Dubbing Loop with Baby Legs Alive (Grey) (make sure and pick out Angora while wrapping this over the top of it)

Collar: Mallard Flank Wood Duck (Gold)

SLF Dark Stone Dubbing

Tied up a few tonight. Here's one I'm calling Bead Back Bugger.

Tail - Brown Marabou

Flash - Root beer crystal flash

Beads - Threaded on a wire

Body - Flash back material

Hackle - Something brown

Tie in the tail and the flash. Then tie down the flash and hackle. Then tie in the beads that are on the wire. Wrap the flash, then tie the beads on top, and wrap the hackle between the beads.

Pretty strange fly I know, but I had to give it a try once I got the idea.

Tail: Black marabou

Body: Black wool

Overbody: Peacock herl

Hackle: Gray Ostrich or Emu

Weight: Dental lead foil

This works really well for trout and smallmouth. The gray hackle gives a minnow or helgramite look. Large Emu or ostrich moves like marabou but holds shape like hackle.

I really like the sequen idea, kind of like the heads they use on tube flys...might have to try that one for salt water :)
