Winnie's Fore and Aft SBS
Posted 19 March 2017 - 02:23 PM
Art Winnie's Michigan hexagenia pattern from the 20's. I beefed up the tail a bit to give it a bit more buoyancy - the original pattern was tied with 3 bucktail fibers.
hook - TMC 5212 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - moose body hair
rear hackle - brown
rib - small tinsel gold
body - Congo Hair gold
front hackle - brown
wing - duck quill segment
mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend
clean, stack, measure (hook length) some moose body; tie in/trim
tie in hackle, wrap to hook point; tie off/trim
tie in tinsel
move thread to 2/3 mark, tie in CH; wrap to rear hackle and back, tie off/trim
spiral rib; tie off/trim
tie in front hackle; wrap to 1 eye width back from eye, tie off/trim
prep matching duck quill segments (gap width); tie in with pinch wrap
trim butts, whip finish, SHHAN
