December Flies from the Vise

Winter is here, and 2019 will include some more streamer fishing, so I needed to start on a new box! Here is a set of Sid tied on Ahrex http://flyhooks.org/ahrex/tp650 #1/0 as front hook and http://flyhooks.org/ahrex/tp610 #1 as rear hook

Very nice. For bass, pike?

Thanks! These are mainly for trout, but I also bring some when I go fishing along the coast here in Norway.

Amazing, we, or I guess I, don't normally think of something like that when I think "Trout Fly". Um, big browns?

Mark,

I know your a long way from Anchorage, but did you feel anything from the earthquakes there?

We've got at least one person on here from Anchorage, but I don't remember the screen name.

Yes, targeting the really big ones in May when the fishing starts! But I also use these fishing saltwater on the westcoast of Norway for seatrout, cod or pollock

Very cool. I wonder if something like that would work for trout over here, or would it be too flashy. Is there a SBS for these somewhere? I would try them in the salt water here.

We felt it, and stuff was swinging around on the walls here but no damage here. We are 350 miles north of the epicenter. No one got killed from this one but there was a lot of damage south of us.

Eide, that Akroyd is a wonderful tie. It may be a Dee pattern but it fishes well over here. Have you ever fished with gut eyes? Just interested in how the fly would ride and swing.

Thank you min venn.

I had a few dollars in my pocket so I paid Orvis a visit. I don't go there much for fly tying stuff, seeing as I already have most of what my local shop stocks. But I decided to pick up some barred marabou, originally thinking of using it for wooly buggers. Then this idea popped in my head. Why not use this as a tail for a minnow instead of the usual rabbit strip? I like how it turned out.

Barred marabou tail, wooly bugger marabou hackle-wrapped with polar chenille, sili legs and laser dub head.

Found this version here.

The creamy/tan hen pheasant adds a nice shade when dyed.

Whether it matches picric is problematic; it should get the fishes attention.

hook Dai Riki 075 #10

thread - Danville 6/0 black

butt - dubbing red

rib - small wire gold

body - dubbing olive

body hackle - brown

wing - hen pheasant wing dyed hot yellow (1Tbs Rit Neon yellow/1 cup water)

front hackle - brown

Regards,

Scott

That’s nice!

I incorporate Grizzly saddles and barred Marabou in my streamer patterns all the time...my favorite stuff.
