  1. I have been digging through my fly boxes and what to my wonder should appear; a Brushpile Stimulator! I tied one up and I obviously need some practice. I will get one that looks right and try to post it in case someone is interested in seeing it. I have not tied one for probably 30 years. In it's day it was a pretty hot fly on the Metolius River here in Central Oregon. In larger sizes it worked pretty good for steelhead also. Can't wait to give them a try again. Terry
  2. This fly is a streamer. I appreciate all of the suggestions. I go to GP often during each year and they do not have them at the resort. Will check with the Bend shop. BTW, the German Brown that is my profile picture was caught there. 14lb 2oz
  3. I checked Google and Bing. The Crane Prairie Special is a specific pattern. It is very colorful and quite large.
  4. Years ago I tied and used this fly with great success at Crane Prairie Res. in Central Oregon. Over the years I apparently used my last one. I can not remember what it looked like any longer. I would love to tie some up again. I am wondering if any of the great minds here have heard of this pattern. If I could only see a picture of one I can tie it. Otherwise if you can tell me how to tie it. Either way I will be most appreciative. Terry
  5. I just found the forum. I live in Springfield Oregon, near the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers. Have lived here for the majority of my adult life. I grew up in Western Montana and still have a love for the state. Have been tying flies for over 40 years now (yes, I am one of those guys). I fish mostly in coastal rivers, Pacific Ocean and lakes here in the PNW. I do a lot of fishing from my boat, a Hewscraft. My wife and I have been married almost 46 years. I am a retired firefighter and served 30 years. Also did a hitch in the military and had the privilege of being in Vietnam 67-68. ha! Besides fishing my wife and I do a fair amount of traveling around in our Big Horn 5th wheel. I collect guns, primarily reproduction cap and ball retrievers however I pick up an original occasionally. Also dabble at collecting Sharps firearms and muzzle loading firearms. I have a fondness for flintlocks. Additionally I shoot weekly, cast bullets, reload etc. My bride and I have 2 children, boy/girl twins. They are grown. Our daughter has 3 children. The oldest will be 20 tomorrow! Boy how did that happen? Our son has two teenage daughters. I am looking forward to leaning a lot of information from you folks and maybe even contribute a bit myself. Terry Jack
