I think the H+F stands for Hair and Foam; the polypropylene yarn was omitted (apparently the creator (?) was into the whole brevity thing). Few moving parts, floats like a cork; change color/sizes to suit your needs

hook - Dai Riki 320 #12

thread - UTC 140 tan

butt/body - Congo Hair Honey Mustard

wing - 2mm foam tan

head/collar - deer hair

mash barb; start thread at 2/3 mark

tie in CH

twist CH to create loop, tie down; wrap forward (maintain twist) to create body, tie off/trim

taper foam strip (gap width) and tie in (extend to end of butt)

clean, stack, measure (tips to end of butt) a clump of deer hair

tie in with 2 soft loops; apply tension, allow it to roll over the top (but not spin) and butts to flare

repeat underneath

pull foam strip up, prop with thread wraps, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

hold foam up, use razor blade to establish top of head; repeat on bottom

H+F October Caddis

Same game plan with a furled 2mm foam body. Tied on a #8 Dai Riki 135; wing/lip is 1mm foam (doubled over for the lip; should push some water if fished as a skater).

Here's a pretty easy way to make the furled body

cut a strip of foam = thickness (2mm x 2mm in this case)

IMG_4497_zpsri0deqwh.jpg

secure one end (clipboard used here)

IMG_4500_zpso7u5jppm.jpg

roll the strip in an arc (best to grab it by the end), either towards or away from you (I like to do it on a piece of foam attached to the clipboard; grips the strip I'm rolling and creates a more uniform twist)

IMG_4501_zps2rqei3l0.jpg

while holding the free end secure, hook the strip in the middle (dubbing twister used here)

IMG_4502_zpslf5f4xlh.jpg

continue holding the free end, lift with the hook and bring the 2 halves together

IMG_4504_zpsxsqg2syd.jpg

continue holding the free end, remove the hook and allow the strip to twist on itself

the furled foam strip is now ready to tie onto the hook.

Regards,

Scott
