I have fished for years  with bought flies as they are so cheap! Something I seldom say, but then realised that I know nothing about these flies as there are a million patterns and most are not recognisable types. i also thought it would be nice to catch on your own fly.

I am an old-school toolmaker and sometimes use a basic reel that i made, which is sometimes satisfying, and like fishing sometimes frustrating. I would also like to make a vice one day (not literally in one day!) and wonder if there are any drawings?

A toolmaker huh, perhaps you could start with making a fugley packer. As for vices you can start with drinking and chasing loose women. That should keep you busy for at least a few days. Welcome to the site.

Welcome,

I am an old machinist you somehow wangled is butt into an engineering position without a four year degree.

I have also thought about building a vise. Have some basic drawings and an idea in the gray matter. Since I work in a union shop now I can't walk up to an empty mill or lathe a start cranking out parts. Some day I will get it done.

Anyway, welcome, lots of great folks here.
