nasty fires in Oklahoma

Recommended Posts

Western OK (where I live) has been in a long drought since good rains two years ago. Brush is grown up and crackles at the touch. Today was 100 degrees with 30-40 mph winds. There is smoke in the air everywhere and fires from KS to TX. Most is in primitive areas and there are not many towns and widely scattered. As you get close to towns wheat fields are green and help to protect us. Right now fires are ripping through the lands around us and as you get close to them the spotters and firemen say the winds jump to 50mph from the updraft of the raging fires. I was watching the spotters and I have never seen so many "firenados" reaching up a hundred feet or more. One volunteer fireman lost and one in critical care right now and a few farm houses lost. Cattle are running everywhere and they're cutting fences trying to save the cattle and horses. It is BAD. Don't know how long they'll keep broadcasting but here is some spotters on one of the local channels Facebook page.
