  1. Here's the origional post I don't see anything mentioned about film vs digital. Peter as you pointed out there's another thread started about it already. It's easy enough to bump, or another one could always be started. I'm packing for a road trip for about a week, so please don't expect me to respond to anything right away.
  2. newfie, I just wanted to apologize to you. This thread should not have become a film vs digital debate. They can both produce stunning results in the right hands, but that's not what you asked All the other info is good though.
  3. I'll be leaving on a trip on Sunday, and the first camera I've packed is a Mamiya 645, filled with B&W film Although I'll be using my DSLR for the colour shots, and panoramics.
  4. Don't worry about toning your skills so much, if your taking a decent looking picture with a P&S at the moment it can only get better with a SLR. To say the least it's alright to use a tripod when shooting with an SLR. What Peterjay said about reputable dealers is so true. Before you buy ANYTHING on-line please confirm it with us that the company is a good one. Even the body, there are several shabby gray market companies out there where you rarely get what you originally ordered. There are a few used companies where they're honest about what your buying. And I'd never hesitate buying anything from them.
  5. A lot can change between now and June. Both Pentax and Canon are rumored to be announcing new models this month, and there's a good chance that more will be announced by someone before then as well. I won't get into the brand thing at the moment, and probably won't mention any unless I think that your missing something. But why not do a little research into what lenses you'll want to get between now and then. After you figure out what lenses you want base the camera bodies decision on that. If your on a limited budget and just starting out please take into account that some DSLR's allow you to use OLD lenses, while others require you to buy their newer glass. OLD lenses usually cost considerably less, and the quality often exceeds modern lenses. In my opinion lenses make more of a difference than the camera bodies.
  6. The weather was nice today, so I grabbed out the snowshoes again and went for another hike, to one of my usual places.
  7. Tybugs1, Have you looked at the Sigma SD14? Here's a couple of pictures I got with the first model on the shelves in Canada. shot in automatic, JPG and un-edited in any way with the exception of re-sized. It's looking like I'll own one next week, and with a little luck be able to post some better pictures right away. If your living in Canada I can get you a very nice price on one (Don't worry Jim, I'm not selling my Pentax gear, the price is just too good on the Sigma )
  8. I'm back safe and sound Ernie, The roads weren't really that bad, although the visibility was pour whenever someone passed. I don't think that I'll be heading into Grand Forks tomorrow, although I'll send Bill an e-mail tonight. You'll like this Peter, I'll probably be building my first rod this winter. A 4wt rod kit was worked into the deal with the sale of one of my pano's
  9. Thats sad but so true Peter. It's the mom and pop outfits that will loose out in the end with the digital era. The BIG department stores will most likely take over from them, although we'll probably never get the service. My local camera store told me just today that they'll only be processing film 2 days a week soon, and they'll probably phase it out completely in the next year. They're teaching me the basics so I can process my own, but it's still a shame.
  10. I would say that she's 14 years younger than me Peter, so there isn't much chance of that happening. However I just remembered that my last girlfriend is 14 years older than I am. And there wasn't much chance of us going out, she was just the woman whom served me when I got my prescription filled
  11. I'll probably be moving again in around 2 months, but I'm 1/2 thinking of just packing everything into my motorhome and moving it into a year round RV site in Kelowna. Which shouldn't be all that hard I don't think that anyone here will want to see my next film pictures anyways. Considering that it'll be a photo shoot with a BEAUTIFUL model, whom will be carving up the slopes on her snowboard After all there won't be any fish involved in it
  12. Stick to your beliefs, but I know which camera I'll be using for some of my money shots. I am keeping my digital, but film has it's place in the world as well.
  13. I thought that this article was interesting. found here Now you know why I'm starting to deal with medium format film for my money shots
  14. Sorry that I didn't respond earlier Jim, That film camera your thinking of getting should give you good results. I think that you'll find the images to have more color than with digital, plus your lenses might even work better on it. I should mention that not all film processors have the right chemicals to develop B&W or slide film. Before you leave any film off there you'll want to make sure that they know what it is otherwise they'll destroy the film. I have an OLD Epson Perfection 1250 scanner with a transparency scanner. It isn't the best thing for negatives, however it's really all that you need with 35mm film. It looks like the Epson Perfection 4490 PHOTO is the new version of it. I've delayed getting the film camera until next week, and will be getting a transparency scanner around the same time. Plus I'll be meeting up with a member from another fishing board about a month later, whom developed his own film years ago. He still has a spare enlarger, which I might be able to purchase. This should help get me on my way. It's really more affordable to get most pictures developed in store, however I just wanted to have a little more control.
  15. Try autostitch instead. I've never seen those problems with any pano programs before here's the link.
