triggers, or match the hatch?

19 February 2019 - 08:26 AM

Seems like some people try to find a trigger, such as rubber legs, hot spots, Peacock herl, etc. Some try to match the hatch. Seems like Warm water tying is focused on triggers, Trout and Salt mostly match the hatch. Smallmouth Bass tying blurs the line. For fishing flies, do you guys find yourself matching the hatch or focusing on triggers? Do you agree with my thoughts or am I making a distinction where there is not one? Sometimes I read and think too much...

Fly tying pioneers

19 February 2019 - 08:16 AM

Seems like some tiers saw something that the rest missed and came up with something that changed fly tying in a major way. For example Clouser(Minnow with lead eyes), Blessing (Wooly Booger), Gapen (Muddler). Who do y'all see as the true pioneers of our sport that impacted you?

Rhody flatwing question

13 February 2019 - 10:01 AM

Has anyone tried a Rhode flatwing on LMB? Seems the action would be similar to a plastic worm.

Bream flies

09 February 2019 - 06:49 AM

I noticed in a previous topic that someone mentioned using longer hooks for Bream to aide in unhooking. Does ànd one use a "cricket hook"? Seems like you could tie one similar to a tarpon fly. I am gonna try it.

fly fishing show

I went to The Fly Fishing Show, in ATL. Had a blast. It was worth the trip to watch Bob Clouser tie a minnow. Great seminars and displays. Well worth the trip.
