Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 Most folks are familliar with the drinkong straw hackle guard. Slip it over the neck of your bobbin, and when you're ready to finish the head, slide it up the thread and over the hook to push the hackle out of the way. I've been doing that for years, but about 50% of the time, I would forget to put it back on the bobbin neck before starting the next fly. AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH. Cut the straw lengthwise. Now you can put it on the thread anytime during the tying process, and You won't end up using those "helping words", as my wife calls them. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
