  1. Now that right there is legit inspiration and the crease is awesome...
  2. SHWEEET....Hope you find time on the next one, you seem to have a fairly good handle on this whole feather on a hook thing I love to tie, but I am tediously slow at filling boxes, and my own little adventures normally keep me busy. I hope you guys have a great swap and I will try and get involved next time.
  3. I don't have the time to get into a swap right now, but I did get out to stalk a few this past weekend...maybe a little inspiration(wish I wouldn't have pulled the hook on the one that would have gone 28''+).
  4. Years back when I was in Alaska my boss didn't particularly like us pegging beads, so with limited tying supplies at camp I came up with this. I was just lucky I had the right hooks to pull this off, and then for the 'veiled' version I used the stuffing from one of the camp labs play toys that had been torn open.

There is nothing fancy going on with the actual tying but the key to the SBS would be the spinning of the brushes; I think there have been some previous posts on dubbin blocks that you could reference; I know I learned about it a few years back through a video that I believe was on this site. I have been spinning up the brushes since then and they give you alot of body and options in customizing blends for different ties. All these flies are blends of craft and different flashes. The trailer hook: some craft, some flash, a few loco legs, then the saddle, from there you just wrap the brush to the hook eye, fluff and finish. The hooks are Gama B10S: 1 in tandem with a 2, utilizing 30lb Rio knottable wire with a few glass beads to connect. I use med tungsten hour glass eyes up front and zap the holo eyes on; I then epoxy over the eyes, weight and wraps. I do this in advance of constructing(tying) the fly. I like my eyes to stay on and in the correct position on the hook, so I take the extra time. The lead hook is nothing but the dubbin brushes with some loco legs tossed in at the color change behind the eyes. I hope I get to take them for a swim soon. I attached a few pics of just the trailers and then a shot of the junction.
  6. I was hoping to make it to the White to dredge some streamers this Winter...unfortunately not looking like I will be able to make it until later in the year.
  7. RIO: 30lb Knottable wire with a couple of beads
  8. I was taking the girly out to yak for Reds in Port O, TX; she ended up working hard battling thirty mph winds to get her first(a pink gurgler)...
  9. Attached the gurgler twice, meant to toss this one in as well:
  10. I am taking my girlfriend to the salt for the first time and these are a few of the ties for her to sling:
  11. I am not sure this pic really shows off the brush well, but it is one of my favorite for Sculps, Tan Congo/Brown Congo/Black Craft/Rootbeer Midge Flash/Gold Tinsel:
  12. While bryan seems to be on the fence...I am all in. Waht do I need to start tyin tubes?
  13. I like the tie, looks good. Your brush looks alot better than mine as well, when I get to spinning it seems like all my material gets sucked in and I end up haveing to pick it back out to get it looking as full as yours, time consuming. I don't know if it is just the difference in material or I am going wrong somewhere; I am fishing the next few days, but I will try some EP fibers when I get back to the bench. I wish I could upgrade the tubes and kayak and get something more along the lines of your ride, but living 6 hrs from the coast I just can't justify it right now.
  14. ...and what is a T-square? I just used a 2x6 and some screws and nails. The examples I have seen have had a trench down the middle, but I am at a loss as to what the trench does for you. I would have routed it out, but I don't have the tools. The wire I have been using just says medium(copper), seems like that is going to get expensive.
