  1. The indexing feature would definitely tighten down enough to lock it down for tying. I have my vise set up so that when I rotate the jaws, they hold their position without locking. The tension screw on the back of the vise is enough to hold it in any position.
  2. I have an Ultimate indexer that I have actually removed the indexer screw from. I totally don't use it. I think the indexer feature is nice for drying epoxy heads evenly, but if you are production tying, I'd imagine you wouldn't be drying epoxy flies in the jaws of your vise anyways. The selling point of the ultimate indexer, for me, was the tilting head (for those tiny little Spring Creek midges) and not the indexing feature. All in all the vise is amazing, I've tied hundreds of flies on it already (had it for a couple months so far) and it is a pleasure to use. This vise is an upgrade from an Anvil Atlas that was OK but access to the back of the hook on small dries was tough. The bigger size of the Dyna-King opens up the area behind the hook much more. Of course, I'm partial to true-rotaries so this is just my opinion.
  3. I would recommend that you go to Oak Orchard Fly Shop, the staff is very knowledgeable and they have a ton of stuff in stock. The guys there are always willing to help and answer questions, I have had little questions about how to tie something, and they jump on the vise and show me how they do it. You cant order that service online. The only reason I would go to Gander Mtn for fly tying stuff is the bargain bins, I have found Keough hackle capes for around $8 (its very hit-or-miss what you find in there). Hope this helps, Adam
  4. For the Smaller sizes, I would recommend thefishguy.net his prices are the same or better than togens, but I think the beads are of higher quality. I have ordered from both and it seems that the smaller togens beads tend to have an enlarged hole (I think its from when they are drilling, the countersinking goes right through to the other side), the larger sizes do not have this problem though. (not affiliated with either, just ordered from both and figured I'd chime in) Adam
  5. I'd like to also recommend the Fly tyer's dungeon. I recently purchased every color H20 Twist they make (amongst a boat load of other stuff). I was very impressed with the quality, and the price was great. I have purchased just about every product they make, and they all are great. The shipping times have greatly improved as of recently as well. The last two orders I placed were received in about 3-5 days. I am also not affiliated in any was other than pleased customer. -Adam
