  3. Hi tyright, Personaly i like to use the down eye for ease of tying, i whip finish by hand so the down eye prevents the last couple of silk winds from slipping over the eye if you know what i mean , i just can't get used to them whip finish tools......... but i like to use up eye for presentation on water..... regards jim

  5. Hi guys , after observing my local stream for some time , i seen what i think could be Caenis hovering and darting just above the water , so i tried my best to lets say ( match the hatch ) i have included my attemts here...............what do you think........ p.s do dry flies really need a wing ??????? :dunno: pps i hope the discriptions are right ppps i think the hackles are to long , but at the moment thats all i have until i build up my feathers collection can anybody advise me on best hackles to use for reasonable price .......cheers
  6.  WELL I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS ONE IN DEPTH,AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW,THE RED TAG IS A PROLIFIC GRAYLING PATTERN,WELL IT IS THIS SIDE OF THE POND ANYWAY..... AND SINCE MOST BROWN TROUT IN OUR RIVERS ARE STOCKIES AND TEND TO DISMISS THE FLY , THEN IN MY OPINION THE RED TAG REPRESENTS SOMETHING VERY NATURAL TO THE RIVER PERHAPS SOMETHING LIKE A WATER SNAIL WHICH STOCKED TROUT WOULD PROBABLY TURN THEIR NOSE AT ..........BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION OH AND BY THE WAY ....THANKS FOR ADVICE AS I SAID TO ( OLD HAT ) I'ME NEVER AVERSE TO GOOD ADVICE DON'T EVER HOLD BACK YOUR ADVICE I'ME ALL EARS

  14. MY USUAL METHOD OF CREATING A THROAT HACKLE IS STRIPPING A FEW FIBRES OFF THE HACKLE , BUNCH THEM TOGETHER AND TIE IN ....... I HAVE ON OCCASION TRIED THE ( DE FEO ) METHOD THAT IS CUTTING OUT THE MIDDLE SECTION OUT OF THE HACKLE AND TYING IN THE WHOLE HACKLE AS A THROAT HACKLE WITH UNSATISFACTORY RESULTS MAY I ADD I WONDER HOW MANY OF YOU GUYS AND GALLS TIE IN THE THROAT HACKLE WITHOUT TURNING THE FLY UPSIDE DOWN......
