tjm 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2018 Not really what I'd call a sinkhole, a sinkhole is associated with caverns and disappearance of the water into the bowels of the earth, this perforation of a ledge lets the water resurface a few feet away. It is said to be the result of blasting years ago and I suspect the state to blast off the face of that present hole and create a chute. Mammoth Spring, where a lot of that river comes from is the seventh-largest natural spring in the world with a mean flow of about 322 cubic feet per second (2408US gal/sec) Kayaking/canoeing is popular on Ozark streams as you can see in denduke's picture. I guess there may be between 5-800 rentals in the 25 miles of floatable river near me. Could be another 100 private boats on that stretch at the same time. Usually we kill a few of the stockers for motel maintenance man.... Mark Crawford has a drift boat for $200 half day always catch bunches. He's got a blog. Great for beginners. That stream has saved many vacations when tailwaters were flooded. Off season nobody and with small town everything is budget! Upper part is good wading year round.
