mybadhabit 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2011 Try looking up your local fly fishing club, most of them would be more than willing to help teach you how to cast, it looks like all he was doing was making a false cast, and it will give you the opportunity to find people in your area that also fly fish and learn their secrets, easier than learning it on your own. JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2011 that's a basic and very short "false cast" which is pretty much how you get the fly to the fish. Remember that in fly fishing, you cast the weight of the line, not the weight of the lure (fly). search "Fly Casting" instead of "Fly Fishing". As BadHabit said, the best thing you could do is find someone who knows what they are doing (not someone who just SAYS they know what they are doing...) and get some education. Jordon W 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Glad you want to learn to fly fish. DISCLAIMER: Once you start you'll never stop! Like many of the other members have stated it is best to learn from someone who knows what there doing. I tried learning to fly fish from books and youtube and I did a pretty good job learning but one day I was fishing on a local river and noticed another fishermen who was catching fish left and right and I wasn't catching any. After watching him for a while he asked how I was doing and when I told him not so well and that I was just starting out, he said well son I have to get off the river soon but proceeded to give me his card and said next time you come out let me know and we can go fishing. long story short I called the man and he basically gave me a three hour one on one lesson. Where I learned so many skills in three hours that would have taken me years to learn. Here is a great source to find a local club. http://www.fedflyfishers.org/Default.aspx?tabid=4357
KHoss 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2011 I wouldn't use those videos for casting inspiration... you're seeing very poor examples of casting go to your local fly shop... most have learn to fish programs or offer free casting instruction, in the hopes of gaining a loyal customer where are you located?
