bassbuster 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 As the weather gets warmer and streams are opening up, I have been slamming the vise to be ready. In the past few weeks my jaws have seen many nymphs and eggs. Was just wanting the input from fellow fishermen about some other patterns for spring steelhead that I may have overlooked or Im missing. artimus001 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 that is a great selection of flies. the one fly that stands out that you are missing is sucker spawn. http://www.flyfishersparadise.com/fly-tying/sucker-spawn
cjsnyder1234 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2015 Those are some great Flies you have there. Only thing I'll throw out there is you might want some small nymphs, maybe some stone flies. I have found this one to work well when I can not buy a bite from an egg pattern.
shoebop 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2015 Your egg patterns will be your "go to" flies along with caddis pupae and stonefly nymphs. If you like swinging streamers, you should have some intruders in the mix.
Rocco 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2015 You are well launched. i also would suggest you might find uses for some more realistic hex/wiggler nymphs and small -- #10 or so -- black stonefly nymphs and a few Mickey Finn streamers. They play hob with the steelhead below the bridge. Rocco
TableGrouch 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2015 Nice ties. Hit 'em on the nose and they should eat. I fished the N. lower rivers for years. Would agree that some more natural hex nymphs and a black stone are good additions. I liked just a little color. Also preferred to 'spot' my egg patterns, chartreuse with a red spot was one of my favorite combos, especially for off color flows. Here's a quick snap of some that worked for me; 2XL #6 for the larger hex, #10 for the stone.
Sharkster 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2015 I would add a few black and pink egg sucking leeches. But the selection is outstanding. You should have great success with what you have.
vjc 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2015 Great box of flies. Otter's eggs are getting quite popular here I NY. They have a nice sucker spawn selection. I don't see any wooly buggers either. White, black, olive and brown work here. Also good for spring are zonkers.
