  1. Listen, it wasn't just 9 packages, it was more like 16, and I lost a lot of money on them, so I'm looking into this. When I have news, I will update. I understand your frustration, and all I can say is that I wouldn't give up hope yet; there's still some chance that I can re-locate everything.
  2. Hello all, First, please allow me to apologize for not visiting and addressing these issues earlier; my professional and personal schedules have been so busy the past two months that I haven’t checked any messages coming from the forum nor have I had the time to visit it. I wasn’t aware that any issues with packages not arriving existed; all flies and books were sent out end of November/beginning of December, as they were supposed to. I received an e-mail from DFix Friday asking me what had happened, and I was surprised to discover (yet again) that our local post office appears to have misplaced multiple packages. We are still, in fact, going through the motions of locating a lost package from October that was worth quite a lot of money. I don’t know what else to say except that I’m sorry for this terrible inconvenience. I am going to the post office today to speak with the supervisor regarding this matter. In the meantime, I have not deposited any payments from the books, since I haven’t had the time to even stop by the bank. I will return all payments to the people that were interested in books; if the books somehow show up, please be good enough to let me know and we can either arrange payment then or you can return it (them), it’s up to you. Flies from swaps, I can’t replace. The only thing I can do is offer to replace postage; I am sorry about this. If anyone would care to contact me and suggest a better alternative, then by all means please do so. Again, my deepest apologies for this mess; I have learned that our local postal service cannot be trusted with any packages whatsoever, and I will try to get to the bottom of this. Chris

  4. I'm actually still waiting for a set of flies to arrive from welshtyer; I imagine they're just taking longer than expected in the post.
  5. HB TB! Hope you have a good one; I'll drink a beer in your honor tonight...
  6. Did you somehow mistake a fly tying forum for FTD?
  7. "You don't buy a Winston rod just for yourself, you hand it down as a family heirloom"... this was directly from the lips of the Winston sales rep at a fly fishing expo in Atlanta a few years ago, back when I was fishing with a Bass Pro rod and Okuma reel that totalled around $200. $600 for a fly rod?!? And now I own a Loomis that retails at over $700... at least I only paid half-price for it! Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining!
  8. Wow! Very nice, I like the looks of it, and of course the price is right!
  9. Mako - Flies arrived today; everything will go out tomorrow or Wednesday.
  10. Hello all, Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to participate in this swap after all, as personal and business commitments over the next month are looking busier and busier. If someone else in North America would like to assume role of the meister, please chime in. If not, I can still do the meistering, just not the tying. Sorry about this...
  11. Jim - Sorry for the delay; had a MAJOR snafu with the postal service. They temporarily lost eight packages I sent out two weeks ago and I just received them back yesterday. I'll be re-sending the flies out in the morning; you should have them by mid-week. Sorry again.

    Bobbins

I have a pair of ceramic-tube bobbins, and one from mr Dr. Slick tool kit that has a ceramic insert at the tip. I've never had any trouble with using them; thread control is simple if you practice and don't pull too much from the bobbin at one time. Of course, the majority of the flies I tie are for saltwater, so they tend to be big, and thread-control is probably a lot easier than it is with tiny freshwater patterns. Still, FWIW... I think my bobbins were around $5 each. I look for bargains on them at the fly fishing shows every year. They're generic, so far as I know.
  13. Mako, Nothing as of yet; perhaps they'll arrive by post today. If not, I'll let you know.
