  1. I've only been tying for a year. I took a class at a local fly shop, they taught the Hares ear nymph, Pheasant tail, Elk Hair Caddis, etc. very common patterns. I then bought some stuff to do pheasant tails. and gradually adding when I can to tie other basic patterns. Youtube and this site have great instructions...
  2. Here is a pict with my cheap vise and some tools and thread. The dowels appear to be too big, but they fit all the thread spools I have. This is the smallest bench at 12: x 16". They have others ranging up yo 22" and 24"
  3. I'm still putting a fly tying station together. This is my latest addition. I found this on ebay. I see they still have a couple left!! This is awesome! I can't wait to get it set up. Only thing I can think of adding is a magnetic strip. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fly-Tying-Bench-/330908053965?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d0ba831cd
  4. I have a Hobie Outback Kayak. It has a rudder and I can pedal it, has tons of storage and goes anywhere I ask it to go. It is a 1 person kayak and still weighs in around 60-65 lbs. but I can get it loaded easily onto my truck rack. I also have a set of wheels that fit into the scupper holes for easy portage. I use it on slow rivers and many lakes and will use my fly rod and spincast - usually will take both rods with me.
  5. Hey Hillbilly! Ditto one what others said. I took a fly tying class last year down at the Anglers store, they are good people to work with. I'm also in Boise - Victory/Five Mile area -
  6. I'm just starting out with the flyfishing, so now I'm looking at all these rivers and I can't wait to get out there. Most of my fishing has been from the bank or out of a kayak. I found out last sprint on Stanley lake I can flyfish from the Kayak. I used various nymphs and a leech pattern and had a ball. I have not fished the Boise river in town for several years. I need to get back down there and try again..
  7. Stay safe over there! We appreciate the work you are doing. I've got an uncle over there at Shindad! He is also a contractor and working a helicopter maintenance shop.
  8. Hi Peter- I'm in Boise...... Local fly fishing club is hosting a fly fishing expo this weekend. I'm planning on going and checking out the latest flies and demo's.
  9. Hello- I signup up last week, but just now getting around to saying something. I've only been flyfishing for about 1 year and almost immediately started tying my own flies. Nothing like fishing with your own creation and getting a nice trout. I have a Hobie Kayak and do a mix of fly fishing and spincast. I like this forum because of the depth of knowledge out there and the great fly patterns I see. I also like the various picts of fly tying workbenches out there. I'm currently working out of some boxes I haul out and set aroung the kitchen table with a $14 vise that is starting to wear out. can't wait for the sub-zero temps to go away and bring on some decent fishing weather. Too much fishing to do and not enough weekend time. This summer I'm looking to do some tent camping / fishing with my harley. I'll let you know how that goes..... See you on the river beltdrive -aka- dennis
