Good evening fly pros,
Im a brand newbie to the fly fishing/tying hobby, my wonderful girlfriend bought me an 8wt Orvis combo for Christmas and I must admit Im HOOKED! Not literally lol.
Im teaching myself due to the fact that I have not found anyone local that fishes and ties. The fishing part is coming along fast and fluid and Im happy with my own progress thus far. Now on to the real problem
Im a bit overwhelmed to say the least on the tying part of all this. Ive been watching YouTube and looking at patterns, and must say I did not realize there was so much talent being cast out everywhere (see what I did there? Haha). I decided to post here and ask for some guidance. What would some of you suggest the best way progress in the art of tying? There are so many materials, patterns and tools out that it easily scares the newcomer.
I live here near Crystal River/Homosassa, FL and will be fishing pretty much saltwater so my tying will be those types of critters. So far I purchased a nice vice, scissors, bobbin, whip finish tool, to spools of thread, two buck tails all brown/white. Ive been practicing on the colossal minnow.
My thoughts are to continue working on that pattern and add more one at a time and moving on after I get them down
Thanks all,
Rich
