stripes53 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 Have a a cabin on a lake close by... which to all standards is not fly fishable (very large and deep resovoir) However after some careful observation there is a decent amount of surface action on a shoal close by... After throwing every dryfly in my box (not alot of stillwater patterns) I did some googling and decided to give this fly a go.. The Lady McConnell Fly (the adult chironomid) Will see this spring if this solves my dilemma (lake walking distance from cabin....cant catch any fish) Cheers First attempt at this fly... anyone have any good ideas to improve? FrequentTyer 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2011 I wanted to try something small tonight just to see if I could do it. This is a #26 parachute BWO. The body is made from a strand of bleached moose mane that I dyed olive. The second picture is with a #10 cricket.

My fly shop got a couple packs of 26 dry fly hooks and 28 nymph hooks so I got one of each and will have to try them out soon.

Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2011 Faux Fox Furled Crab This fly pushes a lot of water and is intended to sight cast bull reds in three feet (1 meter) of water. The amount of weight is to get the fly down quick as often with sight casting this depth of water if it isn't crystal clear, the fish often can not be seen until relatively close to the boat. If the weather gods are nice, I'll be chunking it this upcoming week. Kirk Materials: Hook: SC15, 2/0 Tail: Furled silicone sili legs, 6 ea. side Body: Faux Fox dubbing brush Eyes & weight: X-Large lead barbells with 1/4" piece of large Channel Lead on hook shank behind eyes.
