learn from me. I bought a Fishpond bag, the big one. What a mistake, I overstuff it and it takes a small man and a boy to carry it. As we have a club tying meeting every tuesday it gets to be a pain in the butt.

My first stacker was a .357 mag case. It worked just fine.

Leaving the discussion of what rod/line combination to case flys of various sizes, fly size is a match the hatch thing with some variants. Our club does some river monitoring and one of the aspects is microinvertebrate assesment. A careful examination of the samples taken from the Fox River, Batavia, Illinois was an eye opener. The caddis were much more slender than you see dressed in the average fly box. We tend to overdress our flys. In some cases this is intentional sometimes not. Beads, flash and overdressing are triggers we hope.

I was 14 yrs old in 1961 when I went away to summer camp (Horseshoe, Northern Wisc). I would see the camp founder, Doc H, fly fishing in the early morning around a weed patch in from of his cabin. I tool the fly fishing class there with Moose Cohen, tied several flys in the fly tying cabin and when fishing on a little Brookie stream. I've been hooked ever since. Still have that Phillipson glass rod and my first Medalist. Lanning

Was talking about Fly & Field yesterday. Marcos helped start our club, DuPage Rivers Fly Tyers, at the shop. The club is going strong and Marcos helps us out from time to time. The club meets once a week at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. This past weekend were were at Hunting and Fishing Days in Yorkville, Illinois where we gave tying lessons to anyone who sat down at the booth. Great pics, I tie the shark caddis, this first picture in your post. If you really spin/twist antron tightly you get that result, segments without a wire rib. If you look closely at the picture you will see that there is a real nymph among the ties. Its one of the simplest realist tie I do. Lanning
