ash13brook 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2017 I'm going to my local dollar store for flip flops for poppers. Does the color of the flip flop go clear through (black flip flops=black poppers, yellow=yellow...) or do I buy any color and paint the popper whatever color I need? Thanks, Matt

flytire 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2017 flip flops come in multiple layers of color not just one solid color go to your local dollar store and see what they have in stock
mikechell 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2017 Go to Walmart first. Our local one has a big box by the shoe department. About a dozen different colors, $.98 a pair. You can buy multi-color/multi-layer ones like flytire posted above, but every pair I've bought from Walmart or the Dollar Tree is the same color through and through. And they are colorfast ... I've never had one bleed or fade.
ash13brook 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2017 Thanks, I'll probably go on a popper making binge, now. Oh, well. My wife needs something roll her eyes at. Matt
bass master 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2017 My dollar store has the garden knee pads. They are thicker than the cheap flip flops. And I bought a plug dowel kit at Lowes. 4 bits, 1/4 to 5/8". Got tried of using copper pipe. Now I drill out as many as I need fast.

fshng2 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2017 Xterrabill you are welcome. You will have as much fun making them as you will fishing them. Flip flop material is extremely durable. I make cylinders for poppers and use a Rotary cutter from the craft store to cut thinner flat strips to make Gurglers.

xterrabill 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2017 i started making them today.....takes a little to get used to it. imo its better to think of your dremel as I tiny lathe, and use very fine grit sand paper, 220 is almost too rough, 440 would be a better choice to finish them with maybe. I am able to make cupped front ends by folding the paper to a sharp point and was using a tiny pointed dremel bit as an arbor. only lost 2.....they go flying once in a while, but the material is so soft it doesn't hurt, it actually made me laugh......ZING!! I will post pics of a popper or 2 on my beginner thread page when I get the time. definitely a very fun project to make these....I highly recommend it! thanks again gents Bill
