CDC Winged Emerger SBS

Another Wonderwing variation. Tied here as a Green Drake; change color/size to meet your needs.

 

 

hook - Dai Riki 135 #8

thread - Danville 6/0 olive

shuck - EP Fibers Everglades (brown/olive mix)

tail - mallard flank dyed wood duck

underbody - dubbing olive

abdomen - turkey biot olive

wings - CDC black

thorax - dubbing olive

hackle - grizzly dyed olive

 

 

mash barb, start thread; tie in CH, fold back, wrap to bend, trim

tie in some mallard

dub tapered underbody a bit past the hook point

prepare 2 CDC feathers, put them together with the tips curving away from each other, measure for length (tips to bend); tie in

Are those wonder wings difficult? I've never tried my hand at them.

For the most part they're not too difficult (I usually use hen or saddle hackle; first try with CDC). These were a bit of a pain because most of my black CDC is poor quality and somewhat short-fibered; took a lot of stroking and re-positioning to get them to lay right.
