  1. Well, just got back from 5 days in Yellowstone and Grand Teton Natl Park, thought this would be the flyfishing trip of a lifetime, and it was!!!! Event though I only got a few fish to snap at my flies, and caught 3 brookies in a real small creek, it was still awsome! :yahoo: Gorgeous scenery and plenty of fishing spots everywhere...... Fishing on the Firehole river, around 2 hours before sunset, there was a herd of Buffalo across the river, as I fished they got alot closerr, to the point of ok this is getting uncomfortable, right about when the caddis were coming out, in swarms, along the far bank, right where the buffaloes were, fish were flying out of the water for the caddis. Well ofcourse buffalo are very dangerous, and they were getting within 30 feet of me so I had to bail, BUMMER! best opportunity of the week :-( dang buffaloes are like cockroaches in Yellowstone lol  Overall I only seen one guy catch a small brown, everyone else I chatted with didnt do well at all, might have been warm stream temps or lack of hatches. We also fished about every other stream or river in Yellowstone without luck, didnt see many fish, did see some small fish, but it was thin. Maybye other times of the season the fishing is better, either way you will enjoy fishing there :headbang: Panguitch Lake in Utah, we did well there with 7 Cutthroats 18-23 inchers caught and 3 big Rainbows. All catch and release (15-22 inchers had to be tossed back) plus it was spawn season and all of the inlets were shut down to fishing until July 11th 2009. caught most all of them on Hares Ear beadhead nymph, some with a salmon egg place on the hook. Also fly caught a few smaller trouts, on dry fly with a dropper, they bit the dry (caddis #16) there wasn't a hatch, they were just inexperienced fishes I suppose. The wife cuaght all hers on salmon egg and a small hook. Lost a one due to my inexperience, letting the rod get poionted directly at the trout, when it tugged it snapped the 4x line. Keep your pole at a 90 degree angle to the fish!! let the rod flex do it's job is what I learned. plus Fish are finnicky! We gave a few flies and nymphs to a guy at the campground, he was spin fishing the outlet area of the lake near the dam with no luck, so we shared some of my flies and fishing ideas to him and his kids, hope they cought atleast one. Cheers, Vegasphotoman

  3. Mouse I sent my flies along with 8 extras for you and your buddy Sent out on the 13th of Marchthey should arrive 5-10 days out from this past friday, sent US postal service, had to fill out a declaration form and such, so Im sure that delays shipping even though you're right near detroit / windsor (ontario area) again my sincerest apolgies to everyone involved with this fly swap, I had thought the 15th was the due date and had left vegas for a couple weeks, came back and had only 2 more flies to tie and then shipped em out as soon as I could. If I would have known 2 would drop out I woulda sent em a month ago, (had most done fairly qiuckly) MY BAD and Im am sorry for delaying all. Im sure everyone is anticipating a fun fishing season with all of the fun flies we all recieve, I am going to try and track each fly, and respond to each person about thier fly, if I catch a fish with it, and take a picture with the fly in thier mouth. Hopefully in May we will be doing Colorado and parts of Utah, Durango and such, hope to get into some great fish also....We are hitting Yellowstone Natl Park at the end of June, along with some great areas in Idaho and Utah, should be a radical trip and fun fishing. Will try em all for sure by then. Vegasphotoman
  4. No Problem Frogfish, I hope Ive spurred some creativity in at least one person! Vegasphotoman
  5. Hey Shawn you know, I bet fly tyers are more likely to be careful photographers and generally more festidious about things. Considering fly tying is a detail oriented art form of sorts. I know there are a few pro photogs on the forum, like me that would be happy to help with your continued photography experiences. Vegasphotoman
  6. Cool picture of the skunk, glad you didnt catch a spray, it really reeks for many many days, got hit once as a kid in northern michigan. lol :headbang: Vegasphotoman
  7. Thanks everyone, Ive been lucky to live out west, there is a TON of subject matter, one of my favorites is lightning, the last couple years have been kinda bunk, but a few years back we were getting some excellent storms to photograph. Ill have to post em in the next few days or weeks here (I have billions of images) pretty much just long time exposures at night of a storm cloud, the closer you get to the storm, the cooler the images, also the more dangerous. 8. Hi Everyone :headbang: well, just got back from a 110 mile drive to Rhyolite Nevada (a ghost town) Got some cool pix of the Cook Bank building and of some other stuff, and would like to share with everyone. Ill start with explaining what I did to create these images, Im sure it will open a whole new world of photography for many people. These were shot at dusk, then the moonrise lit up the edge of the sky nicely. unless you can expose for atleast 10 to 30 seconds, you wont be able to do light painting as you need time and a dark location. an SLR is handy for this, some point and shoots have a M setting for manual, more cant do super long exposures though Dark clothing helps! if you walk in front of a camera exposing it wont see you as long as you keep moving, dark clothing helps (dont wear white!) Bogen Tripod Canon 5D 12 megapixel full frame DSLR Digital shutter release (cable release in the old days) nice, but not a neccessary item. for exposures of 15 seconds to several minutes. f5.6 or f8 is a good starting point ISO 100 has the least "noise" so thats what I use. you can experiment with it, the higher the ISO the faster the light can enter the sensor or film. Also the slower ISO lets you have more time to "Paint" with light. I used a wide lens (17mm) some color gelatin filters (avail at most camera shops) you can shoot without color filters too. (I use these gels over my flashlight to color the light) you can also use substitute stuff such as yellow bags from the veterans donation bags or blue bags from walmart, anything to color the light as long as it can shine through the item. I almost alwasy shoot TUNGSTEN setting at night (little lightbulb icon on the white balance setting) Make sure you are set to TUNGSTEN or the little light bulb setting if you are using flashlights, car headlights or any tunsgten light source, it is like adding a blue filter to your lens, this gets rid of the yellow in regular flashlilghts and such. You can use the daylight setting if you use a regular camera flash. For using flash to light, remove it from your camera, set to manual medium to low power, add your color gel (or not) to the flash, now you can side light, back light and flash your subject. while your camera is exposing. you can change the color gel or bag and do other colors on other areas in the frame of the image capture. you can also combine = flashlights, LED lights, flashes and such any number of ways. to make light "trails " and Paint with the light, point the flash light at the camera and move it about, spell your name or just make squiggles. go around 10 to 20 feet or more in front of the camera for best effect. It wont hurt your image either to flash directly towards the lens, you can flash your frind, have them move, the flash em again for ghost images. I like to side light stuff, it gives dimension and shadow. Im am not the best at explaing things, but hope this gives a little insight to this type of photography art I will be glad to answer questions to anyone interested, just leave a post or email me through the forum Vegasphotoman my websites http://www.LasVegasPIX.com http://www.FremontStock.com

  15. I'm In (if theres still room!) Adams Cripple, probably size 14 or 16 see forum = http://www.flytyingforum.com/pattern1445.html Resolution: to finish my wifes VW Baja bug by the end of summer, (and my 68 Firebird by the end of 2011), the bug has been sitting 1/2 finished in the garage for 3 years (since she got pregnant with our first daughter, now we have 2) She was helping with all aspects. It will be a show car not really an off roader, House of Kolors pearls and lots of attention to detail. Hey Im new to tying so I cant say theres any fly I dont want to tie just yet, but I figure this one looks like a great fly, don't worry, event though Ive only been tying 2 months, I won't disappoint anyone. Started fly fishing 3 months ago (after 30 years spin cast fishing) What waters Ive missed out on in my travels!!!!! Vegasphotoman PS RiffleRiverSteel= Hey I fished the AuSable river back in the 80s (spin casting) Im originally from StClair Shores Mich Redwings rule!
