Northern Wisconsin/Minnesota?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im leaving for Montana in a little over 2 weeks to spend the rest of my summer flyfishing and backpacking. The drive out there from up here in Michigan's Upper Pennisula is 26 hours so I plan to break it up into a few days of camping and flyfishing in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. I will be traveling down the main highway that connects Duluth, Grand Rapids and etc. I'd like to camp and flyfish my way through them focusing on Smallmouth, pike and muskie. I know both of these states have good fishing for all three species and I was wondering if anyone on here could help me with any rivers, lakes, or campgrouds in the area that I should check out. Any info is appreciated and feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks

Probably not what you are looking for but a canoe trip into the Superior National Forest and Quetico is highly recommended. The fishing is almost pristine. What a great place to spend a week or more exploring and fishing. These areas are mostly just used for wilderness camping and get very little fishing. You can spend a couple of weeks in most areas and see maybe one or two other canoes paddleing thru. Great walleye, pike, and SM. Moose, bear, beaver, bald eagles, loons, are all to be seen.

If you are heading around Hayward WI I would highly suggest fishing the Chippewa Flowage. It's one of the best Muskie waters in the nation. Hayward also has the freshwater fishing hall of fame which is a must stop for any fisherman. Most lakes in WI and MN will house either Northerns or Muskie but I would check with a fly shop around Duluth for more info on which waters are on fire at that time. MN DNR website lists all lakes and what fish reside there if you want to do some research on which ones will be on your route.
