  1. I've pretty much dropped EP in favor of some other materials I've found easier to work with, but I build my baitfish pretty much the same way. If you use too much material, you'll have problems casting the fly. Not because it's too heavy, but because t won't shed water the way a more sparse pattern would. It looks good to me, but you'll know on your second cast if you over did it. Here's an "EP" that I tied with Steve Farrar FB, I can cast these with a 7wt. Slinky fiber works well too.
  2. It has alot to do with your target species / what you're slinging. I have almost no use for natural materials of any kind. Maribou/schlappen hackles and XXL bunny strips are about the only natural materials I keep around.
  3. I use a 4 rpm flex coat drying motor, and I use the bottom half of an old steelhead rod with half a dozen cork rings epoxied down it's length. I can turn several dozen 6" long 4/0 meat flies at a time.
