troutgeek 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 I happened upon a trick for keeping the wings and hackle away while whip finishing -- cut a small diameter straw to about 1/4 inch long and slip it over the bobbin before starting the fly. When ready to whip finish, slip the straw off the bobbin and onto the hook, pushing the hackle and wings back. Whip finish the fly. Nice clean heads every time. Graham 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 Hey troutgeek, That's a great idea, thanks. I'll try that with a straw; I'll also try cutting the side, and slip it over the thread, after tying the fly. Thanks again. Graham
ArkieFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 I've not used a straw, but I have tips from rubber gloves (Playtex dishwashing gloves work best) on my bobbins and do the same thing. For larger flies, this might be an option. I do like the idea of the straw... Gonna have to try that one...
