  1. Those Look amazing! How did you do the beaks? And where is the eye of the hook or where do you tie on to it? I can't see it in the photos.

My username is the same on here: #flyman416 I just recently got Instagram due to a photography class I'm taking. I was skeptical at first but that was before I realized that there is a flyfishing community out there.
  3. I think that the Hair Craze has actually gone down (at least in Kentucky) within the past few months because I've seen alot fewer people with them.... So if its like this in other states their production rate has probably gone down as far as demand for them goes I guess.
  4. I really love those green rings and the section of conglomerate cork in the middle. What did you use for the rings?
  5. I was afraid of that haha! Oh well . Either way I'm excited about it!
  6. Since there will be a ton of these bugs, I would just tie up a couple deer hair bugs about two and a half inches long. That should give enough profile to mimic them, or you could do a dark red/ orange colored popper.
  7. Hello all, I'm sure some of the people on here have known about the cicada group known as Brood II in North America on the East coast. Brood II is as old as I am and I'm pretty excited as I remember a few years ago when the 7 year cicadas emerged in Kentucky, and the surrounding states, the fish, aswell as other insect eating animals, went crazy for these bugs. So I thought I ought to remind all of the east coasters about this and to start tying some red eyed cicada patterns for there will be billions of them! Here's an article about it if you want to read more: http://m.theatlanticcities.com/neighborhoods/2013/05/17-year-brood-ii-cicada-emergence-update-theyre-heeeere/5562/ I know that Kentucky is not on the East Coast but I have a feeling we'll get hit with a couple swarms.
  8. When I'm just fly fishing or spin casting during the summer, I use cargo shorts with the bug pockets on the legs. They're pretty good fishing shorts for wading; I don't dry fly fish much so water in my flybox isn't a problem. But When I'm in the NC smokeys, I like to both fly fish and spin cast( the trout up there are very fickle creatures, I could be using a minnow pattern on the fly and get nothing then switch to a silver Vibrex (inline spinner) which is about the same size and catch fish on it) so I use a vest to keep my extra supplies(tackle boxes, tippet, pliers, multitool, water). I put my ultra light and my fly rod in the fly rod case and both reals in the vest. I have some parachute cord tied to the case so I sling that on my shoulder.
  9. Thanks! I'll throw in some small crank baits and jigs along with my UL reel. It weighs probably 4-5 oz not a whole lot more to my over all pack weight. I do need to stock up on small hooks though, like your talking about 20+ right? The smallest I've got right now is an 18. Anyways thanks guys for your help and suggestions!
  10. Do artificial lures like that really work well for winter time trout? I don't get many chances to fish for them in the winter time, so I don't really know what works as far as worms on a hook and nymphs. I do know to fish things slow during the winter time but nothing more, (is that right?).
  11. I thought about after Mike suggested the ultra light rod and flyreel and decided that it would add too much extra weight becuase my fly rod is the only one i have and its a good one and i want to keep it safe at all times, in this case it would be too heavy as it would be in a PVC case that came with it, but thanks for the suggestion!
  12. Thanks! ill take some nymphs and some dries since these are going to be mostly trout waters and maybe a foot deep at the most. Do you mean put the fly reel on the ultra-light rod? I would have never thought of that! that would allow me to pack light and flyfish. Thanks
  13. So me and a couple friends are going backpaking at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky in a couple weeks, and I was trying to decide on whether or not I should take my fly rod or my ultra-light because the trail goes across several creeks and across the red river and i want to try to fish them. So my question is has anyone went on a three day trip with little or no problems with carrying a flyrod or an ultrlight? My flyrod is a W.W. Crigg GX 904-5 9'0' 4-peice 5 WT with an Okuma Reel S5/6 and my ultralight is a 4'6" 5 peice Shakespeare with a Diawa Spincast reel. Which one should I take? and what flies should i take aswell? My back pack is a feildline bighorn backpak (just to anwer that question).

Lol

True story.
