Rivers are up around here this time of year; not a place for dubbed-body flies. Fight foam with foam.

Tied here as a Purple Haze; change color/size to suit your needs.


hook - Dai Riki 135 #12

thread - Danville 6/0 purple

core - 20lb mono

tail/underbody - moose body hair

abdomen - 1mm foam purple

wing - Congo Hair white

hackle - grizzly/brown

thorax -dubbing purple




put a loop in the end of a piece of mono; tie it in

measure (2x hook length) some moose body; tie in/trim butts

hook loop onto the gallows; wrap hair up the core and back down

double up a hank of CH; tie in by butts (creating a loop up front)

tie in foam strip (1/2 gap width)

brush abdomen with Super Glue

wrap foam up (adjusting tension on foam will determine abdomen thickness; going for a chunker here)

brush on a little more Super Glue, wrap back down; tie off/trim

trim out mono; hook CH loop onto the gallows and wrap back towards base of abdomen

tie in hackles

wrap up post (width of thorax) and back down; tie off/trim

dub thread/dub thorax; leave 1 eye width up front free for wing tie down

stroke hackle fibers back, pull wing forward over thorax; tie down

pull wing up/back; tie down
