Mel, apparently, is a fan of alliteration. Stripped peacock herl used for the body here, but lots of other options are available - stripped hackle quill, biot, thread, etc.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14

thread - Danville 6/0 black

tail - woodduck flank fibers

body - peacock herl (stripped)

thorax - peacock herl

wing - Congo Hair white

hackle - grizzly (oversize by 1)

mash barb; start thread at 3/4 mark

tie a clump of CH on top of shank, secure with crossing wraps; pull up and post

tie in hackle (shiny side out)

wrap to bend, tie in stripped herl

wrap herl; tie off at base of wing, coat with Sally

prep woodduck flank (trim out center so you have one fiber on each side)

flip over and tie on underside with fibers curving down (up)

tie in peacock; wrap thorax, finish with thread at base of wing

wrap hackle down the post; let hackle hang and capture with thread wraps at base of wing

Another great step by step and I learned a new word to boot. Alliteration/ al-lit-er-a-tion, "the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words." I can't be the only one who has never heard that before, right?

Tongue twisters are usually alliterative. That's the only reason I know the word ...

"Susie sells sea shells by the sea shore."
