  1. Being new here, I have a question concerning the gallery. If I find a fly on a given page that I may wish to go back to, does it remain on that page, or change page location as flies are added to the gallery? My question seems confusing even to me. Mike
  2. I tie with sparkle chinelle that doesn't come on spools. I simply transfered it to old spools for convenience. This also ment buying a bobbin with larger tube but worth it.
  3. I have a Peak vise and really like it . I haven't tied on many others to make an honest comparison, but I sure like my Peak. I also bent a cheap vise by clamping too tight. I think it is a common thing with new tyers and cheap cam vises. My first was the $25.00 range import from BPS . I had to take it apart and smooth the cam with my belt sander. I gave it a light coat of vasaline on the cam and it now works pretty good. I kept it in case a new tyer needs a loaner. Save the rest ,you'll need it down the line. Mike
  4. We used to get vanity plates free when a NEW vehicle was purchased. Now they charge a bunch for that service. :ripped: To make it worse, once you have them you have to pay extra every year to keep them. I don't believe in voluntary taxation, so I don't order them. I would bet that Illinois will be the first to sell advertising space on the stop signs. Sorry for the rant, Mike
  5. Thank you garetjax for the information. I'll give them a call today. I sure like my Peak vice, but only tied on one other. I have the best Cabela's cheap line. ($25?) I had to dissamble it and belt sand and lightly grease the cam action to get it to operate smoothly. I also have to keep it wiped down with a lightly oiled rag to avoid rust. It still works ok, but it's a dream to tie on my PEAK!!! Mike
  6. Although I haven't done it yet, I am going to contact Peak and see if I can purchase the plastic clamp like the bobbin holder comes out of. I use the bobbin holder a lot , but it would be nice to also have a small wire frame that holds a standard plastic grocery bag. This would be nice at tie-ins to keep trimmings off the carpet. Mike
  7. Wow! Count your blessings. We have next to nothing at our local Wally World that pertains to fly fishing or tying. Some of you spoke of how many display feet they use. 6" would not be tightly packed here .Mike
  8. Special thanks to flytire ! ! ! :headbang: I have saved these links for future use. I owe you one, Mike
  9. I was contacted today By the Grey Drake Hackle Co, and he can get the wild colors I'm in need of . Thank you to whoever got the information to him. :yahoo: Note- I forgot to ask his permission to post his contact information but will ask when I contact him again. Mike
  10. Hopefully this is an image of the little sparkly jig I am looking for hackle for. I actually got the tail too bulky on this one. Mike
  11. I seen that J. Stockard is the sponser of this site within minuits after posting and emailed them . Since I got no reply, I'm assuming they don't carry this product. I am tying a small sparkle jig. I use 1/124 th oz jig with 12 hook. Mariboo tail with a few strands of flash and sparkle body. The hackle is tied in the normal fashion at the front behind the eye to slow the jig fall. I'll see if I can get pictures posted. I do know the dealers name but don't think it would be proper to put his name on the web without his permission. If you think you have contact information, please send to [ [email protected] ] Thanks all, Mike
  12. I would like to find hackle for some tiny 124 th oz bluegill jigs I want to tie. I need pink- Chartuse- and red. I seen some at the Iowa Flyfishers show in Iowa City and got a selection in dyed grizzly capes, but now want colors dyed over white. The dealer I got them from is Grey Drake Hackle Co out of Madison Wisc. I can't get a response from his phone and his web site is gone so need other source. I realize these are somewhat strange colors, but they do work. I am very new to tying, but I think the ones I want are called dry fly hackle. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You, Mike
  13. Chris, If you don't want to mess with the contact cement, run down to the Hobby Lobby and they have a ton of colors of foam with or without the sticky back . I've got an old can of contact cement here also. I've actually got more foam than I'll use in this lifetime, and be happy to share .Mike HideHunter- I'm going slip off to south Iowa one of these days and see if there are any gills that you haven't "educated" yet. lol Mike
  14. Thank you Cutthroat. I owe you one. Mike
  15. Well, I guess I am lost here. Yesterday there was a discussion at the top of the page in "recent posts" discussing float tubes. I replied to the post, but must have hit the wrong button. I have tried to use the search thing, but no results. Does anyone recall where I can find that thread???? From now on I will look to see what portion of the site it is in. Thank you for such a great site, Mike
