flytire 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 Great recipes so far Thanks Would mvflylon work?
Meeshka 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 Now that I think of it black dumbell eyes may be a better choise. The braided mylar tubing is tied in close to hook eye and tied off at the tail. So you could tie on the tubing, then tie on the dumbells. This shoul dform a bigger weighted head when the over and under body are tied off??
flytire 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 but the dumbell eyes on top of the hook shank would then require the fly to be tied upside down i dont see silver wire over the gold tinsel body but it could be added
Meeshka 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 I think what you would have to do is tie in the underbody on ventral of hook, tie in overbody on dorsal of hook, tie in barbell. When brought back to wrap off the underbody would wrap in front of barbell and become the overbody and vise versa. Thje gill band would help hold everything secure (along with UV cure)???? In this fasion I don't think it would be nesc to tie the fly upside down??? Silver wire - my eyes are not as sharp as they once were
flytire 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 i think i'll stick to the original photo or why wouldnt you tie on the tail, tie on the tinsel and wrap forward. then tie on the dumbbell eye. then poke through the mylar tubing with the hook eye and fold the tubing back to the bend and tie that down. that would complete the body of the fly. all that remains is the wing, throat and cheeks to tie on and make the gill band. overcoat the head and go fishing
flytire 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 PRELIMINARY ATTEMPT #1 at the body. wrong material for the tail. need some calf tail for the tail. waiting for new materials
tjm 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2019 Oh, I see, we are guessing what some one did. I think the tail, under/over wing, cheek and throat/belly are all the same white synthetic stuff and colored with marker, stuff looks like the Bonnie Braid carded out about 3/4 the way to straight, but I don't use synthetics much and it could be poly yarn or congo or or. Think the eyes are either plastic beads or melted mono- there is a 3-D look there, they line up with the shank. I think the piping over/under-body is folded over the beads in the fashion that flytire said. I'm not seeing any ribbing over the tinsel body or if there is I'd guess oval tinsel rib in same color as body. Gill is just scarlet thread and head is UV cure. johnnyquahog 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2019 Wing, tail, belly and cheeks are either sea-fibers, ep fibers or Congo hair. I am not looking at a high res monitor but I’m thinking the thread is clear mono. If that is the case then the gills are a half dozen turns of clear mono run over a red sharpie tip prior to wrapping. Head is epoxy or LCA.
DarrellP 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2019 I think the eyes may be painted on. They appear a little irregular.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2019 building on attempt #1 Close enough to fish ... almost well tied enough to display. It looks, to me, like the original is tied on a much larger hook. It's longer and the tubing is, comparably, smaller diameter.
