Most treads tell you but I can't find it for wire. Thanks, FlyTieDad I just measured mine ... although it's not UTC wire, I am assuming the spool is close to the same. Mine is 1.25 inches long from end to end. If you need the diameter too, it's approximately 0.75 inches in diameter. I couldn't get that measurement accurately, as the wire is in the way. Crackaig 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 For coloured copper wire take a look at the beading suppliers. I use them in lots of colours from 0.3mm diameter down. The spools are approx 100 yards for £1. That's less than half the cost of Ultra Wire (the last spool I bought was £2.20). Some of the retailers call this "Tiger Tail". Not the kind of bulk SilverCreek has his in but a good supply for less than half the price of Ultra Wire. This site is a great source for various wires. I just found this posted on an old thread here. UTC size = Diameter (inches) = AWG for enameled wire Extra small = .004 = 38-40 Small = .007 = 34 Brassie = .009 = 32 Medium = .014 = 28 Large = .017 = 26 Is the wire for fly tying coated to protect against water? SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 The best place to get bulk wire at the best price, or even for free is an electrical shop that repairs/rewinds electric motors and generators. They buy wire in bulk spools and at the end of a spool there is not be enough wire left to rewind a motor. The remaining wire is useless to them, but a lifetime supply for us.
