Mike if you ever travel to the upstate of SC, by all means give me a holler and I will make sure to get you out on the water. Cold water or warm water, it can be your choice.

And on the way back down to Florida, you'll have to make a stop up here in GA!

I tried fishing yesterday and today.  I tried both fly and conventional gear.  The only hit I had was right at the "dock" I was on, as I was pulling a large bucktail "road runner" type lure from the water.  Looked to be some kind of Jack (Crevalle or Amber?) about 15 inches long.  I missed it, of course ... and got no other takers on anything I threw.

But part of the problem was ... every other cast, I had to bring in and clean the trash off of.

It's EVERYWHERE.  Tides just shift it around, nothing takes it away.  I really like the people I've met here ... but Monrovia is a trash heap beside a cesspool.

That is what a lot of the Monrovia coast line looks like.  It's not so bad on the open Atlantic side of town, but I can't fish there.  I am not set up to fight 10 foot breakers.  These pictures are what every protected area looks like.

A lot of the inland coastal waters in Fla., and lots of the lakes too, have residential canals peripheral to them, and they are also often filled with litter (cigarette butts, Styrofoam cups, etc.).  It tends to collect in areas that are not well-flushed, and also tends to grow fast.  We can throw a beach cleanup event, and two weeks later the beach is littered again (often, I'm sad to say, by fishermen).  We collect miles of monofilament every time.

Monrovia is the capitol of Liberia.

There are also Monrovias in Kansas, Alabama, Maryland and Indiana, but since Mike is in California, I suspect he's in the one that's there.

You might need to tie on a used nappy streamer or a mouldy kebab nymph for the fish in there. Looks like you might be seeing some real sewer tarpon on this trip Mike.

There are places in all those American States named "Monrovia"  ... but I am in the one that's the capital of Liberia.  Been here a week, leave here in a week ... and I can honestly say, these are two of the longest weeks of my life.

Good news, I get home the day before my 55th Birthday.  THAT will be the best present I can think of this year.

I have a book from the hospital on waterborne illness if you want to borrow it. Yikes, stay safe.
Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for the day; Teach a man to tie flies and he'll pick up all the roadkill.
