Anyone tying cicada flies?

Recommended Posts

Tied these up last night just messing around. I think they are good enough to catch a few fish but they still need some fine tuning...

2016-06-11%2010.46.58_zpsfq11lir8.jpg unsinkabeetle variant on Sz 6 b10s. Had a carp swipe at one the other day, but there were just so many on the water or was hard to get noticed. I think the fish were full honestly.

Cream.....the eyes. Mono ones or sections of bead chain? They look great.

If only the fish in my area could figure out they are edible.

There was a big cicada hatch on the SoHo in E. TN a couple of years ago. While fishing, I watched several cicada's fall onto the water and then float downstream, out of sight, unmolested. The trout just didn't seem interested.

I'm with phg on this. Saw one drop into the Hiwassee a couple of years ago. Floated out of sight and not even touched. I watched for several minutes to see if I needed to get back to the vice for an imitation.

I tied one so real one time that people had a hard time telling the difference

Mostly out of deer hair

I had a real one mounted on a pin and then the one I tied. Most folks would have to touch it to tell them apart. Just did it for chits and giggles Never fished the thing. Wish I had a picture of it's on a old hard drive that crashed
