tctrout 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2016 My father has decided to return to duck hunting, which is a bonus for me. I've tried my best to explain and show him the "select" cdc feathers, but an article with pictures would be great. Has anyone come across a good one over the years that shows the process and the types of feathers to select? Thanks! Tim

phg 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2016 It's really pretty easy. On the back of the duck, just in front of the tail, you'll find a bump. That bump is the preen gland, All the under feathers in that area are CDC. Most ducks have a ton of oiler puffs. As you move out from the preen gland, you begin to get the other types of CDC. I don't think there are as many of the longer types, but, as puffs are what I use the most of, I don't worry about them.
