  1. Wiggle the wire through, or do it very fast or both, works for me.

  4. Hi Monty3777, I'm not really sure on your question but the difference between a parachute hackled fly and a 'normal' collar hackled fly is the 'foot-print' they create on the water. The Parachute will produce the more natural 'foot-print' of the two. Hope this helps.
  5. Kevin, I had a look on the Fulling Mill website and I can't find a barbless model, I usually just pinch down the barb with some pliers. Thanks Chris, yep its persalls. Its the lighter yellow rather than the darker shade.
  6. Thanks guys. Letumgo, I used a hen hackle which is pretty easy to double over and then wrap so it sweeps back without having to wrap back over the stem. Kevin Compton the hooks is a size 10 Fulling Mill 31530 (Competition Heavyweight).

  11. That is a great first fly, as others have said maybe shorten the tail abit. With regards to the Alexandra I feel if the fly was very effective and caught alot of fish then personally I can see little problem with banning it. think about it if this fly was used to catch a hell of alot of fish then if I was the fishery manager or who ever maybe in charge then I would be concerned for the handling of the fish during C&R, eventually some are going to become damaged due to poor handling. Also wheres the fun in always using this one pattern to catch fish, I prefer a challenge and to try new patterns. Just my opinion though. Anyway sorry to go off topic. That is truley a very good first fly you should be proud of yourself :headbang:.
  12. Thanks everyone. Funny you should mention that Knoxy, I was at Delbury last weekend, the water was crystal clear had some great fun with a Cove's Pheasant Tail on a size 10, best fishing I've had in a long time.
  13. Thanks, I might have a go for carp later this year but I'm still trying to figure out what I'll be needing.
  14. Nice fish! Can I ask what weight rod you were using and was lb tippet? Thanks.
