4 year ficus progression

Recommended Posts

You know it's getting into the dead of winter in Michigan when it's 1am and you are working on your bonsai trees because it's been months since you had to bring them all inside.

Here's a little photo progression of this ficus bonsai I have been working on for the past 4 years now.

Pic#1 2014- as I bought it. Lots wrong with it such as too tall, no lower branches, dreaded S-curve, inverted taper.

Pic#2- Fall 2014- Trunk chopped it down to just a 3" base and have a sprout of new growth

Pic#3 Spring 2017- Lots of new growth was just thinned out and waiting for more back budding.

Pic #4 Jan 17th 2018- Pruned some more and starting to wire branches. Starting to take a shape and look like something now.

Very nicely done, so far.

Patience ... a rarely seen virtue is strongly evident in those who can do Bonsai. No "instant gratification" ... ever!
