  1. HELLO ONCE MORE. Been on the forum 11 years now. Aged seventy five I Don,t get out fishing any more. While in Cheshire I still tied flies, used to sell thousands on ebay. Moved to the seaside in Essex last November and short on space for fly tying at the moment. But hope to resume in future. Wife now has dementia so most imectaken up,looking after her. Managed to get over to America in April-July, 2014 this time concentrating on Lake Roosevelt, WA where I only lost out on my personal best smallmouth bass by an ounce, four pounds ten ounces on a black and green Besd Head Lure. My wife,s health means no more travelling(my kid brother passed on January 27, aged only 65. He was hoping to visit this autumn after retiring from work. Always willing to offer tying advice to anyone who asks for it. CHEERS

  2. Been a member for a fair while but not been active. I love the new fly patterns on here. Used to go fly fishing a lot, but no longer drive so it means I have to rely on others to take me out. I love tying flies and the great outdoors. Just regret I can,t get out to try them out. Will try to be more active on here from now on.
  3. Well forumites. Haven't been on this forum much recently. Quite annoyed that one of the forum members promised to take me out after April 1st-even e-mailed and rang me as he lives near me-20 miles-. First of April arrived and suddenly that person seems to have been kidnapped by the fairies. Also made an appeal to three other forums(Whether you are aware or not I no longer drive and my disabled wife can't take me to local waters) asking if there were any forum members willing to take me out from time to time. Strangely I've had more offers from americans and canadians than english members. Just a shame I live in the united kingdom. In all eight different anglers offered to help me, but only ONE actually took me out and he's been vacationing in Scotland recently so I'm back to square one with no one in reserve. The point I'm trying to make is; 1. Don't offer if you won't help snd This sport is in big trouble if we aren't willing to help those less fortunate. Thank You
  4. Sory to seem not so "clued up" but I'm an expatriate american living in england and the term "chrome" is unfamiliar. I presume this refers to a trout and possibly a brown trout, but can someone please confirm this for me? Thanks
  5. Sorry to be so ignorant feathers5, I know you're trying to be helpful, but unless it a Trades Union(TU) I'm not aware of what you're referring to. Please clarify? Meanwhile I've found out that TU stands for Trout Unlimited. Unfortunately they don't have them in the uk. Perhaps someone should start one up, but I'm too old for that.
  6. Thanks, Zach. I make a point of using craft shops and also wrote to a nearby safari park here in england about buying feathers and they sent me an extremely large bag full for no charge so as you say always useful to look around as the cost of materials is Not going down.
  7. I wish I'd STOPPED at a couple of grands worth of materials-and I'm still adding to my stocks even though I could pro :wallbash: bably open a shop on all the stuff I already got!
  8. Welcome Darkhousefisher: Arkansa hey! Never been there, but sounds an interesting place. You'll find the forumites helpful and every one fishing mad!
  9. Think you're a bit like me. When I was in the states last summer I ordered their fly tiers grab bag, hungarian partidge and three different colored turkey biots. I got strung red cock hackle, strung brown marabou of good quality, mixed deer hair and bucktails. It's basically good quality, but I don't use the bucktails as much as I used to. If I tried to order Cabelas stuff from here in england it'd cost me a fortune in postage, though! In their shop in Mitchell, S.D. I bought odd bits and pieces of materials and hooks, but was quite disappointed in the lack of variety-or maybe I just caught them on an off-day!
  10. I presume you're in a cold part of the USA-midwest maybe. Rather mild for the time of year in england(northwest). I usually don't go out this time unless someone I know is going to a new fishery-then I'll go. Otherwise too cold for these old bones. Much happier sitting home warm tying lots of flies for warmer weather.
  11. Thanks Raging Bull-that was one of my late father's favourite sayi :ripped: ngs along wth " If wishes were horses beggars would ride" Have a Nice Day!
  12. WISH SOMEONE WOULD GIVE ME A FULL PHEASANT SKIN! THERE'S A THOUGHT THEN!
  13. About twenty I got patterns for off this forums fly pattern database-Many Thanks, Guys-Now to getting out to use them!
  14. Hi Woodchuck and hello from northwest England. I taught myself fly tying in South Dakota at 14 and that was over 50 years ago, but never fished for trout till 1968 in Washington state. Had a break from fishing altogther from 1979-2007, but now I'm retired taken it up again in a big way-spent alot of cash and spending more all the time, but then what's money for? I'm still learning and will till I die. Welcome to the Madhouse-you've lots of great company! Been in all the states bar eioht Virginia being one I've Not visited yet so you never know!
